Although not illegal now, should it be illegal to deface currency?

That's the evil Spock from the "Mirror, Mirror" episode.  :thumbup:
\"A man\'s rights rest in three boxes. The ballot-box, the jury-box and the cartridge-box.\"

Frederick Douglass, November 15, 1867.

Even if it was illegal, how could the cops enforce it. Just say it was like that when you got it.

Bricktop

Your point is well observed. But when has practicality ever intervened in Governments passing laws they simply cannot enforce.

For example, the idiots that run our Government recently passed a law that makes it illegal to drive within one metre of a cyclist.

Seems simple enough, except;

Any conviction for a breach must rely on an ESTIMATION by the observing police officer. "Was the distance EXACTLY one metre"? "I cannot say. It looked like a metre". "So, is it possible that it was 900mm"?

The distance is more likely to be closed BY THE CYCLIST. Unless the motorist deliberately veers towards the bicycle, it is reasonable to expect that the car maintains a straight course. Cyclists, on the other hand, find that difficult. Especially in havy traffic.

So, idiotic laws that cannot be policed are not uncommon.

That does sound like a big waste.

Is that a state law Mr. Crowley?

RW

Canada is pretty good about not creating uninforceable laws.  There are some stupid ones but I compare it to the US and they seem to have more (thanks for always being better than us America!).

Yes, it applies only in South Australia. Other States laugh at our stupidity.

Consider it further. The cyclist is on a country road. Larger vehicles may not have the extra room to give the cycle a metre in leeway? And its travelling at 100 km/h!!!

Intentions are usually good with these type of laws.
