it was barely a hundred years ago that overt racism against asians was systemic.



there were actual laws against asians. and chinatowns are a symbol of this overt racism.



chinese were ghettoized and expelled and ostracized to their own designated areas



things have improved a bit. but not that much from the days when you were beaten or killed just for being chinese.
