It was 25 years ago when Operation Desert Storm began.

Quote from: "easter bunny"Century 2, Quatrain 62

Mabus will soon die, then will come,

A horrible undoing of people and animals,

At once one will see vengeance,

One hundred powers, thirst, famine, when the comet will pass.

George W. Bush had Saddam & his sons killed, and now we're in the middle of his 27 year war:

QuoteCentury 8, Quatrain 77

The antichrist very soon annihilates the three,

twenty-seven years his war will last.

The unbelievers are dead, captive, exiled;

with blood, human bodies, water and red hail covering the earth.

Many children who weren't even born when the first war started, will die in this current one when they grow up, become soldiers and fight in it. Sad but true.

I'm so glad that I didn't support military intervention over there. It's always good to be on the right side of history.

Personally I thought it was an incredibly stupid idea to leave Saddam Hussein in power after the first Gulf war. Sadly no one consulted with me about it and the result was exactly as I predicted.

I read it was Colin Powell who was leading the opposition to removing him from power.

Actually, there was a technical reason. I may be a bit off on all the details, but in order to get UN resolution (or some agreement)  he had to agree in advance  not to go into Iraq .... authorized only to push Saddam out of occupied Kuwait .. which they did toute de suite

I have no quarrel with honoring ally agreements  (although Kuwait I would not want to fight for)  ... .what bush did horribly wrong was shortly after - he encouraged the southern shia to rebel ... they thinking he meant they would get support ... they rebelled and were left alone to die

Ah the UN. In their infinite wisdom, they only authorized the complete and utter humiliation of an egomaniac with messianic delusions in charge of a soon to be nuclear power, and not his removal from power.  That makes sense.

It was an op/ed I read. There was prolly a lot more to the decision not to remove him from power(as CC stated) than just Colin Powell saying don't do it.

Might as well rename them the League of Nations.   :oeudC:
