Joe Jackson: Patriarch of Jackson family dies aged 89



Joe Jackson, the father of music legends Michael and Janet Jackson, has died at age 89, a person close to the family has confirmed to the BBC.



Jackson passed away early on Wednesday morning after he had been in hospital for terminal pancreatic cancer, celebrity news website TMZ reports.



His death comes just two days after the anniversary of his son Michael Jackson's death nine years ago.

Former NHL goalie Ray Emery drowns in Hamilton Harbour



The hockey community is in mourning after police confirmed that former NHL goalie Ray Emery drowned in Hamilton Harbour Sunday morning.



Emery went for a swim with friends at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club at around 6:30 a.m. and didn't emerge from the water.

Hopefully, he did not purposely drown himself as a suicide. Someone did just that recently in the US. He left a note by the lake before he jumped into the water.

"He came home scared, telling me that to make a name for himself he had planned to kill Lennon. But he said my love had saved him," Hiroko, 67, told the British tabloid.



But the wife claims she had no idea Chapman, now 63, was on a murder mission when he returned to New York two months later.



"The only reason I was OK with Mark making another trip was because I had believed him when he said he needed to grow up as an adult and husband, and needed time to think about his life," she said. "He wanted me to sacrifice being alone for a short time so that we could have a long, happy marriage together."



Chapman also "lied" to Hiroko about getting rid of his gun.



"He said he threw the gun into the ocean, and I believed him," she said.
