Right now, it's a bad idea, but you never know how it might evolve in the future.

Driverless cars would make families having two cars obsolete.

Why? You still have to transport the same number of passengers headed in two different destinations. Driver or driverless, that doesn't change the transportation requirement or the number of people who have to be sent to their desired destinations. If the husband has to go to work downtown, and the wife has to drive the kids to school and go grocery shopping the time and requirements are still the same.

Why buy.a car that will sit not running 85 per cent of the time when there are abundant fleets of driverless cars offering cheap rides right at your disposal.

...because there aren't always cars available, and not everyone likes them nor wishes to use them. I've seen these hourly rent a car, car2go, evo car share. Even tried them. But one problem is you can't always get a car, and when you can, they are several blocks away or even a mile away. And then you have to pick them up. But then when you get there they are either taken or gone because somebody else rented them.

Remember, a car is not a bike. It takes up a lot more space, needs special parking spaces, and even if you add more of these rental vehicles on the road, where are they gonna go? Where's the room? How will they accommodate them. Logistically, parking towers would have to be built for customers to retrieve them.

Likewise the city of vancouver is adding all these bikes and stalls everywhere, and frankly, its a fuckin mess. The mayor of vancouver is an idiot. He has all these grandiose plans about creating a bicycle utopia, and yet its becoming poorly implemented, and bike lanes and bike stalls are crowding the strrets and stripping them of badly needed parking stalls for cars. There's even insufficient room for pedestrians who are being crowded out of the sidewalks by bicycle lanes and their stalls in the downtown core.
