Quote from: "Dinky Dianna"Unions are a joke.

The public sector are the worst. They screw the taxpayer royally.

Public sector unions are merely an organ of the left side of politics.

Public sector employees will never vote against the hand that feeds them high wages, lifelong tenure, and a cushy workplace.

Here in South Australia, 13% of all workers are public sector.

Think about that for a moment...that means that 87% of the workforce have to generate enough revenue to pay their wages. Only, of that 87%, only about 20% actually work in revenue generating occupations. The rest are lawyers, accountants, hairdressers and other "service" vocations.

Public sector workers were once paid less than private sector, in lieu of lifelong tenure. They now earn 20% MORE than their private sector counterparts whilst retaining tenure of service.

And we wonder why we cannot get rid of our leftist State government...

I am a provincial civil servant..

I could have made at least as much in a private company, but I would have been subject to economic slow downs..

I have a defined benefit pension plan, paid sick days and most of all my job allows me the flexibility to be with my family when they need me.

Nothead in her infinite stupidity is not trimming our bloated snivil service. She'd rather raise taxes and have record deficits than ask you lazy fucks to share the pain.

We are not lazy I will have you know..

But, I don't know how much longer we can be exempt from the cuts and wage rollbacks that workers in private companies have had to endure lately.

In 2007 our membership voted to fimp our old union for the Yeamsters. I voted against it and if the vote were held today we would never have traded our old union for the Teamster parasites.

You omit to state that your perks and benefits are paid for by taxpayers. Whilst you may be "impervious" to economic slow downs, the taxation golden goose that pays you is not. So, to keep public servants coseted in their frequently unnecessary positions, taxes must either be raised, or government spending elsewhere reduced.

Public servants are now a major factor in Government spending.

As Shen observes, the US is close to the Rubicon of more takers than makers. Australia, with its massive, unnecessary Governments and their equally unnecessary bureaucracies, crossed that line years ago.

Well I am not quitting and I would hope m union will fight the government tooth and nail if they tried changing my pension or slashing jobs.

Regardless of the consequences to the ever shrinking private industry wage earners who must support a bloated and expanding bureaucracy?

The indignation of public servants when faced with the suggestion that their working conditions need to be pared is not unlike welfare recipients being informed their "benefits" are to be reduced.

"But I am ENTITLED"!

No, you're not.

Phagdish Hardy

As usual that fucking Shen Li is right. Get those fucking pipelines in the ground and get our nation working again.

Truth hurts, doesn't it?

Angry White Male

Government agencies used to run because it was the best way to run certain sectors.

I'm a businessman now, and I can tell you that government agencies are now typically run to create one of the largest "make work" projects ever, employing mainly females (and minorities also) who would be otherwise unemployable, or fighting for a job at McDonald's...

As much as women think they mean shit, they are essentially leeches on society.  Only with "forced hiring" and the likes, are they even able to earn a living.

Then again, the women wanted it this way.  They weren't "happy" sitting at home raising kids, while the husband paid for their suburbia lifestyle.

Now they have it, but nonetheless subsidized by my tax dollars...

I would prefer to see municipal governments get out of a lot of things they do and turn it over to private companies. The unions will never allow this of course.
