A number of years ago, I saw Oleander open for Collective Soul. Their cover of a classic Doors tune got a lotta radio play for a while back then. They were from Sacramento, but I don't know much else about them. Here's the cover:

Amen.

I was honestly floored when I heard this cover of Neil Young.

Pretty cool and here is the original for comparison.

Watch what you say to me or I'll mind FAWK U.

These side-by-side cover/original comparisons can be interesting and fun. Here's another cover of a Neil Young song from the same album. In this instance, the cover is by Canadian band, Big Sugar. It's pretty slouchy and ragged and I like it:

Here's Neil's original:

Amen.

This is a Byrds cover of a Bob Dylan song. I'm not a Bob Dylan fanatic, but it cannot be denied that there many good covers of songs he penned.  Released in 1967, the hook for me is this lyric "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."

Amen.

Siouxsie and the Banshees were formed in London back in 1976. This cover is of a song attributed to Lennon and McCartney, but John is who actually wrote it. You may call this video "her fuzzy pits", if you like:

Amen.
Deo vindice

I love Jimi's guitar phrasing on this:

Amen.

Van Halen covered covered the Kinks' classic 60's rock standard:
