Quote from: J E B Stuart on November 02, 2025, 01:20:50 PMBlue Öyster Cult is another reason why the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a load o' crap. BOC began in 1967. I recently saw them live again (for the third time) and those mofos can still damn sure tear it up. Incredibly, long time member Eric Bloom turns 81 this month and founding member and lead guitarist Buck Dharma turns 78 December 1st.

This is a great number from their legendary Agents of Fortune album. I have no idea why this song wasn't released as a single. Oh well, what the hell do I know?  Come to think of it, I know this is a damn good song:

Amen.

They were not half bad.

John Dawson Winter III, a/k/a Johnny Winter was a legendary albino blues guitarist from Beaumont, Texas, who was active from 1959 right up until he died in Switzerland in 2014. I had the good fortune to see him live at The House of Blues. Even though he had to be helped onto the stage and seated in a chair, he still had it. He collaborated for some time in the early 70s with remnants of The McCoys, including Rick Derringer. This is a great rocker from an album of the same name:

Amen.

His younger brother Edgar is as famous as Johnny was, maybe even more. Edgar is also albino.  This is the studio version of Edgar's group White Trash doing their signature song:

Yeah. Over the years, more often than not I have preferred studio albums over live albums, but there were exceptions such as the 1970 Live album by Johnny Winter And. Besides Winter, the group included guitarist Rick Derringer, bassist Randy Jo Hobbs and drummer Randy Zehringer, all former members of the McCoys. This was the first album released with Rick Derringer as a sideman.

The live cover of Jumpin' Jack Flash blew me away. Better than the original, hands down. As I said in a previous post, I saw Winter live. I also have the album:

Amen.

Bob Welch was a vital member of Fleetwood Mac during what some refer to as the "bridge years".  He wrote some great songs. Sadly, he took his own life in 2012.

Hypnotized was written by Welch. It appears on Fleetwood Mac's 8th album.  Even though it wasn't released as a single, it has become one of their most enduring numbers.  It goes without saying, it's one of my favorites:

Amigo, I suspect there is a buncha Fleetwood Mac music that would sound unfamiliar to you. And you certainly wouldn't be the Lone Ranger. How far back does your listening history with them go? Is it essentially the Stevie era?

There is a ton of history, but we can start with this - Fleetwood Mac was formed in 1967 by Peter Green. It was Green who named his band "Fleetwood Mac", which was derived from the names of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie.  Interestingly, Green left his band in 1970, while Fleetwood and McVie remain with the band to this day.  Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham didn't get onboard until 1967.

Here's an excellent number  from 1969 on their third album "Then Play On", from the Peter Green era:

Amen.
