Herman

Quote from: J E B Stuart on May 09, 2025, 02:47:27 PMOne-hit wonder band from Mansfield, OH. I actually have the vinyl LP. This song made it all the way up to #2:

Amen.
They had a one hit wonder weekend last month on a nearby radio station. That would make a good thread.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?  Well, in this case the question is - Which came first, the song or the band?  And the answer is that the song came first. Geoff Stephens wanted to record a novelty song he wrote, so he did just that with some studio musicians. Well, in 1966 the song became a huge hit in the U.K. and actually reached #1 in the USA.  Thus, The New Vaudeville Band was put together to ride that cash cow and the rest is history:

Amen.
Deo vindice

This classic by The Standells keeps getting better with age. And just about every kid who's picked up a guitar with dreams of becoming a rock star, learns the Dirty Water riff.

Amen.

So that is who did that song. I know the tune, but not the artist.

Released in 1969, this is another which-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg songs. The long and short of it is that this song started climbing the charts, so a band had to be slapped together to seize the opportunity.  And I must add that it is a purdy dang good song:

Amen.
Deo vindice

More memories of Rick Derringer, who just passed away. Formed 1962 in Fort Recovery, OH, they were originally called Rick and the Raiders.  By the time this classic tune hit the airwaves, however, they had become The McCoys.  This tune is also now the official rock song of Ohio:

Amen.

You can't hardly get more one-hit wonderish than this rock duo from Nebraska. Their lone hit song spent six weeks at #1 in 1969:

Amen.
Deo vindice

Herman?  These motherfuckin' phones really piss me off sometimes. I just now saw that I apparently hit "fuck you" when I intended to hit "Agree".  And now it won't let me fix it. My sincere apologies, amigo.

You made old Herman cry. You know how vulnerable old alcoholic redneck bikers are.
