That is a really tough one. Part of me sees it as almost demeaning to Dylan. Part thinks is pretty cool and justified. Like I said, a tough one for me. Got me on this one, can't decide which side of the fence to fall on.

Is this award justified?

Hell no. But, like kiebers posted, Obama did not deserve a Nobel award either.

Regardless of your own political perspective as compared to his, its interesting that a songwriter has been awarded a prize for his contribution to literature, via the medium of music.



Does this open up a whole new vista of Nobel prizes...how about comics?



The Beatles were the heart of the rise of music as a social force, and Dylan its soul. But is it literature?



Perhaps they would have been better to offer a Nobel Prize for Art.

Is this award justified?

Although Bob Dylan (Zimmerman) wrote some great songs/poetery, he has written just one book.



His rival/contemporary,Canadian Leonard Cohen, is a Poet/Author with critically acclaimed works which have been reviewed and housed in the best universities in the world.

Dylan...1 book...Cohen...dozens of novels and poetry anthologies.



Cohen has also sold millions of books and CDs/Records.

He is possibly the greatest novellist/literary talent Canada has ever produced.

Certainly one of the best North America has in modern times.



I think Cohen was better rounded than Dylan and was a better fit for the definition of a literary specialist.
