My wife and I are thinking about making our money work for us through franchise investing. Two of the companies we are thinking about are

http://debitdirect.ca/">http://debitdirect.ca/

and

http://snack4health.com/">http://snack4health.com/

Do they make exaggerated claims about returns? Which one seems better?

Please, no advice from seoulbro. Impartial posts only. He makes his living talking naive customers into investments that make him money, not them

What an ignoramus.

You do not want my advice, fine.

With food and drink you have to factor in spoilage. That can be the deal breaker if what you stock does not sell. I am thinking as far as equipment, the vending machines would be more prone to needing repair.

The debit machine would be the least worry repair wise but how many will you have to own to get a return. How many places have debit cards now? How much is paid to a convenience store if you put one in there. That would probably be the best traffic areas. How much are you going to have to give up to the store to make it worth their while to kick out the folks that are already there? Who physically stocks the machine with money? If its you are you willing to put yourself at risk? How much cash do those machines hold? Gonna have to insure them against that.
I've learned that if someone asks you a really stupid question and you reply by telling them what time it is, they'll leave you alone

Seoul isn't trying to sell you anything.

I like POS machines better. No work involved, no insurance to buy, no maintenance headaches, no wear and tear on vehicles carrying food to machines and no stock to buy. The debit one says they can guarantee a minimum 15% return.

Iron horse jockey, I hope you are successful if you decide to invest..

But, one quick search on the vending company indicated some negative reviews of the owner..

I am sure the other company might have one or two dissatisfied franchisees as well..

Proceed with caution.

They are only debit machines? They don't take credit cards?

I just hope, iron horse jockey is very careful, and does as much research as possible before he invests his retirement money..

I am sure everyone else here agrees.

Without checking on either of them, most franchises are not worth it.

Not necessarily. The risk of business failure is reduced by franchising. Your business is based on a proven idea. You can check how successful other franchises are before committing yourself.

I did some research and it does appear that vending is a tough business. Most companies selling turnkey vending machines with locations exaggerate potential earnings.

We would still like to invest in something. We will keep looking.

Some franchise brands are like gold. Tim Horton's comes to mind. Hence the enormous cash outlay required to purchase a franchise. But, the little franchises like you have in mind can be done much cheaper on your own. In particular vending. Better to buy used machines on Kijiji, partner with a charity and use that to get machines in new businesses. I have a healthy non electric vending machine in my shop partnered with Make A Wish. They pay me no percentage of profits and takes up eighteen inches of floor space.

At our old office, we had those chocolate peppermint patties at the entrance. I think I saw one person put money in ever. I can't remember the charity either.
