QuoteOn May 30, a Facebook user from Quebec posted a photo showing Arabic writing on a London patrol car. The post included the statement: "So it starts. The little toes in the door already." The poster also asks the question: "Why is this acceptable?"

The writer also questioned why "police" is not spelled out in French, even though both French and English spell the word exactly the same.

Now police in London, Ont., are being forced to defend decals on patrol cars that have the word "police" written in a number of different languages, including Arabic, which is the one that has angered some people.

Although the decals have been on London Police Service cruisers for at least nine years, a recent Facebook post about Arabic writing on patrol car has resulted in many angry phone calls from Americans upset over the apparent "Islamization of Canada." The post was picked up by a conservative American blog site that also published the phone number for London police.

"Headquarters has been getting calls like crazy," Const. Sandasha Bough said. "Some of them are being patched up to me and people are just screaming at me." Bough couldn't provide specifics on how many calls have come in, but said they've remained steady throughout the day Friday.

The decals were added to police cars in 2009 to represent many of the city's various ethnic groups, but the Arabic one is the only one to draw criticism. Using figures from Statistics Canada, officials selected the most frequently used languages for the stickers, including Vietnamese, Chinese, Persian and Polish. There are plans to include Spanish stickers in the future. "It was a means of being inclusive of the diverse members within the city of London," Bough told CBC News.

The Facebook post on the decals was shared nearly 18,000 times and liked nearly 2,000 times.

London police received some calls after the post originally appeared, Bough said, but calls intensified after it was re-posted to the U.S. blog site.

"Canadians see this as an example of favouritism and inconsistent with French-Canadian values," according to the blog run by an individual identified as Dr. Rich Swier. "This is yet another example of the Islamization of Canada."

The writer suggests people complain and recommended fellow Americans voice their displeasure.

Why do Americans give a shit about what's written on our police cars?

And don't wonder what this fear monger shit buys us.

Why the fuck is a thread about people whining for or against multicult doing in an extremism  sub? At best, it belongs in politics.

RW

What is political about American citizens crying about the Islamification of Canada?  Is this not about extreme behaviours around Islam?

Or do you just object to seeing that this fear mongering bullshit buys actual xenophobic stupidity?

I've learned that if someone asks you a really stupid question and you reply by telling them what time it is, they'll leave you alone

This kind of pandering to diversity is exactly what divides the country and inhibits integration.

Why learn English, when all the signs cover all languages. All government forms are multi-lingual. Call centres offer language options.

None of this existed in the 50's and 60's, when Europeans flooded into Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the US and even South Africa.

You learned English, or you got nowhere.

What's significant is the migrants from those periods integrated perfectly, at least in Australia, and we are fortunate to have a number of Italian-Australians, Greek-Australians, English-Australians and other nationalities that believe in their country without abrogating their heritage and culture.

I suspect the same thing happened in the US during their migrant boom.

By pandering to these modern immigrants with their own language, their own schools and their own religions we are working against overall assimilation into one nation.

That does not make us stronger.

It makes us very much weaker.

It seems to work just fine here.  I can't say I often hear anyone bitching that signs are too multilingual.  I mean, it's a good thing for people to actually understand what things are or how to do things.  If their English or French isn't the greatest, they can still be part of our communities and country.

The issue is why are AMERICANS bitching about what is written and has been written on CANADIAN police cars for almost a decade?  I suspect it's because their leadership is a fear mongering dumpster fire and this xenophobia/bigotry is a reflection of that.  Either way, this shit needs to be left on the US side of the 49th parallel.

In America???

Why not show us what owning guns buys us? Or racial segregation, perhaps? It might be nice to see what greed and avarice returns as well.
