James Damore, a former Google engineer, has filed a lawsuit against the tech giant for alleged discrimination against him for his conservative political views.



Mr Damore and lawyer Harmeet Dhillon held a news conference in San Francisco and said the company discriminated against white men who held political views different from those of Google executives.

In California it is against state law to discriminate based on political view.  And federally it is is illegal (at least for now) to discriminate against white men.

The lawsuit claims that at one of Google's weekly company-wide meetings the presence of white males at the company was openly booed by employees. "Not only was the numerical presence of women celebrated at Google solely due to their gender, but the presence of Caucasians and males was mocked with "boos" during company-wide weekly meetings. This unacceptable behavior occurred at the hands of high-level managers at Google who were responsible for hundreds, if not thousands, of hiring and firing decisions during the Class Periods."

If it can be proved, this is a perfect example of a "hostile work envirnoment."  can you imagine a company where black women's presence was booed?  they'd be excoriated by the media to no end. (bear in mind the media basically laughed at this guy when he got fired--calling HIM a sexist)

Porat and Naughton (The chief financial officer of Google and the human resources director). also allegedly discussed how Google takes gender and ethnicity into account when deciding promotions within the company.

Promotions based on race gender, also illegal on the federal level.

It wouldn't apply to smaller businesses here(below 50 employees, but of course google is way beyond that)  there are some affirmative action exceptions that might get in the way.  As you know it is legal to discriminate against whites and Asians in college admissions.  There may be some other exceptions too, along those lines, that are employment related.  if so, they need to be gotten rid of, maybe this will pave the way for that to happen.

Others would include Christian ministries and NGO's with a political or social focus..



But, no exception for the private sector, big or small.

My step-brother was denied entry into the RCMP, simply because he was a straight white male.  At least the recruiter was honest with him about this, but that was many years ago.  Not so sure they would state that to a prospective recruit these days.



He is now so high up in the military, that they are paying him full salary to attend full time French class for an entire year...  Apparently in the Canadian Military, you reach a level where you cannot advance any further, unless you are bilingual.



The RCMP's loss, is another entities gain...  My step-brother never really let that bother him, and I guess only with that mindset, was he able to get to where he is now.
