This is my favourite Polish political joke.



A farm worker greets the Polish Communist Party chief at his potato farm.



"Comrade, we have so many potatoes that, piled up, they would reach all the way to God," the farmer excitedly tells his leader.



"But God does not exist," replies the Chief.



"Exactly," says the farmer. "Neither do the fucking potatoes."

I don't know much about my family history going way back, but I'm sure it's probably pretty boring, hum-drum stuff.



Really, the only thing I know is a bit about by Grandfather spending his teens and early 20's as a POW in South Africa.



His father, my Great-Grandfather, was high up in the Nazi regime.  NOBODY ever knew what his role was.  He wouldn't tell his wife, he wouldn't tell his kids.  Even on his death bed, he never EVER mentioned one word about that time.

The problem with my family, is that we never really kept much in contact.  It's all mutted up.  My Grandfather was from Germany, my Grandmother was German, but it was Poland at that time.



My biological father (never met the man) was from Denmark.



I am first generation Canadian, believe it or not.  This makes it extra difficult to trace anything back.
