Travis Air Force Base Gate Crash with car loaded with propane Investigated As Terror Attack

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A car loaded with propane tanks ran through the main gate at Travis Air Force Base in northern California on Wednesday night. Military personnel ran up to the burning car that exploded in flame after breaching the security gates.



In video posted on an Air Force forum on Facebook, firefighters are seen attempting to put out the flames.



Law enforcement sources say the car carried propane tanks and the driver deliberately ignited the fire. He died inside the car, which drove off the road into a ditch. There are no reports of shots fired during the incident. The driver has been identified by law enforcement but not been named.



Since he ignited himself, investigators are treating this as an act of terrorism. The FBI has joined the Air Force in the investigation.



Travis Air Force Base is a main military air cargo and transport terminal on the West Coast, supporting operations across the Pacific.  It's home to some 7,000 active U.S. Air Force military personnel.

Latest - U.S. officials are looking at terrorism or some sort of suicide event as a possible motive, but the investigation is in its early stages.

A man who was killed in a fiery crash at Travis AFB's main gate has been identified as 51-year-old Hafiz Kazi.



Sources described Kazi as a "nomad" and a "vagabond," who lived in many places.



Authorities extracted a video from his cell phone and are analyzing it to try and see if it could help point to a motive. Sources wouldn't offer any details about the video.



The FBI is holding a press conference Friday at 3:30 p.m. and will be asking the public for help and any information about Kazi.

Man, 51, who launched 'suicide attack on California Air Force base' and plowed his fiery minivan laden with propane into the gates was NOT a terrorist say authorities



Kazi, an immigrant who came from India 25 years ago, died by the time authorities arrived on the scene and has no known links to terrorism, investigators said Friday.



FBI revealed they have no leads on the reason behind the attack.



The attack, which was at first thought to be an act of terror, is no longer considered as such as Kazi has not been linked to a motive, according to CBS.

The FBI simply have not yet seen a provable motive because this person was low profile.



I've long ago learned that when similar such drastic  acts (in this crashing the gate with a vehicle filled with propane tanks, gasoline, lighters etc. and this time against an Air Force Base)  is performed by a group consisting of a mere 1 % of the US population,  there is a common motive / motivation for each such act



Clearly it was  to damage a base and or kill base personnel he hated, not to say "hi guys, I'm with you all the way"



FBI simply is not yet privy to details of what the exact motive is, but it sure wan't support for the country he lived in

I've long ago learned that when similar such drastic  acts (in this crashing the gate with a vehicle filled with propane tanks, gasoline, lighters etc. and this time against an Air Force Base)  is performed by a group consisting of a mere 1 % of the US population,  there is a common motive / motivation for each such act



Clearly it was  to damage a base and or kill base personnel he hated, not to say "hi guys, I'm with you all the way"



FBI simply is not yet privy to details of what the exact motive is, but it sure wan't support for the country he lived in

There had to have been a reason why he selected the target that he did.
