My mom is buying me a camera of my choice...I want a good one and not sure of what...any suggestions?

You don't actually appear to have a lot of yard at all in that photo. There's a small pool and concrete slab separated by a square of grass. Not much to weed.

That's not a small pool, nor is it a concrete slab.

I'd recommend a Nikon DX line camera  ac_cool , that's the series Brick and I are currently using.  Maybe a DX3400, a good value entry level crop sensor camera, compact for a dslr but offers 50% zoom bonus compared to full frames.  Or maybe even the new Nikon mirrorless cameras.  Or get a large sensor compact camera if you rarely zoom.

Do you want small?  I prefer a small camera for portability, but still demand quality...

If this is the case for you, I strongly suggest looking at Canon's G9 series.  These aren't cheap though, and may be out of your budget range.

I currently utilize an S120 as my go-to camera, but I'm not sure if they are still available.  The G9 is the latest 'version' of their quality compact.

It's the same line, though mines is the D5300, and Brick's one is the D7200  ac_cool .  Though I might need to upgrade my camera soon for work purposes, currently can't get an 100% perfect white balance for product shots for some reason and has been bugging me.  :001_tongue:

It seems like everyone here has a APS-C sensor DSLR, but then it's not surprising considering they have a 50% image magnification/zoom, 80% of full frame image quality, fast shutter, 4x longer battery life than DCs, affordable, endless choice of lens and friendly ergonomics.  ac_cool

I don't have one. All I have is my phone. The old lady has a Canon though. I don't know which model it is.

Phone isn't too bad for outdoor pics but the quality drastically drops once taken indoors or during night time.  But on teh good side it has improved a lot over the years thanks to their high aperture, or the pixel 2 is a excellent choice if you prefer the convenience of phones.  ac_cool  BTW Herman are ya interested in buying a new camera too?

When I am up North for the winter, I sometimes see caribou or wolves and wish I had a better camera than on my phone. But, even if I did it's not likely I would have it on me when I see wildlife.

Sounds like a one of these pocket zoom camera might work out.  Not sure would you be interested but these little guys can be small enough to be pocketed most of the time but can offer a 30x or higher optical zoom, even much higher than my big Nikon DSLR's zoom lens.

That's small enough I could carry it my pocket. I might just get one before I head up North. Thanks brother. ac_drinks
