FaceBook is full of idiots.  That's why I rarely post anything there, only keeping account active for minimal communications with people that I know.  And half of them are idiots also!

I Don't facebook (beyond necessary business account) but I guess there's lots of stuff   there for some to fill in time ... much of it rather mundane and for very simple minds

Yes. I don't use it for anything persona, but It works well for many for staying in touch.



Beyond that and certainly for serious things it does not work well

Oh, I agree and I hear Twitter is at least as oppressive.
