I am hardly a left-wing elitist, but my hated of this org now rivals NAC. Fuck off you big government intrusive losers.
QuoteREAL Women of Canada need a reality check.

This past week, the socially conservative women's organization, led by Gwen Landolt, issued a release criticizing Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird for his stance on gay rights around the world.

It states Baird "insulted the speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, at a meeting of the International Parliamentary Union in Quebec City when he criticized Uganda for its position on homosexuality and same-sex marriage."

It's not just that Uganda doesn't embrace gay marriage, adoption rights, etc. Last November, legislators in Uganda made a push to introduce a "kill the gays bill."

The release also took issue with Baird's criticism of Russia's new ambiguous dragnet law that outlaws "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations."

Landolt said Baird's words apply "only to himself and his fellow activists and the left-wing elitists" and also "Mr. Baird's actions are destructive to the conservative base in Canada."

This likely has many subsections within the big tent Conservative party shaking their heads in frustration.

The idea that "left-wing elitists" are the only ones who will speak up when people are being persecuted because of their personal lives is insulting.

It's also way more damaging to the conservative cause than anything Baird could possibly say.

The left loves to portray the right as wholly intolerant of social liberty.

Much has been done to dispel this myth.

The likes of Landolt give those who believe in the vast right-wing conspiracy fuel to keep stoking these suspicions.

Prime Minister Harper has been an honest broker on gay issues.

He promised to reopen the gay marriage debate when he came to office.

He did in 2006 and the status quo prevailed. Now he views it as case closed.

While there are some social conservatives out there who place this issue as their top priority,

Placing restrictions on people's personal lives is actually a form of big government.

REAL Women of Canada play their true card when they write "homosexual activists in Canada are intolerant of any resistance to their demands, and, as such have become a tyrannical minority."

And there we were thinking John Baird was the issue, but suddenly it's about the massive gay conspiracy lurking in the bushes.

There is a small cohort out there that believes in this conspiracy.

When it was discovered a Toronto teacher posted literature from a men's bathhouse in a classroom, some chalked this up to the conspiracy at play.

Same for the alarming news of the former deputy minister of education for Manitoba and Ontario being arrested on child porn charges.

These are both disturbing stories.

But anyone with their head screwed on right would understand that average middle-class gay people don't exactly approve of them, either.

People who side with Landolt need to ask themselves a question: Are they willing to lose all public credibility by falling on this sword?

Or would they rather use their political capital to fight alongside fiscal conservatives, libertarians and gay conservatives to get government out of people's private lives (which liberates religion and sexuality equally).

Social conservative groups applauded when Baird's Office of Religious Freedom was created to speak out against the persecution of Christians and others throughout the world.

Drop the double standard and just accept that Canada stands up for all human rights.

Don't get me wrong handsome, I have never liked Western nations sticking their noses into the internal affairs of sovereign nations. However, we need to be consistent. If we condemn Muslim nations for discriminating against women and gays we must apply the same standard to Uganda and Russia.

It's an open secret that John Baird is gay. It doesn't surprise me that he would become irate about discrimination against gays. He has also spoken out against treatment of women in Muslim nations if my memory serves me correctly.

There's no "gay agenda". "No citizen should be discriminated against for just being what they were born as."

It's wrong for Russia to criminalize homosexuality. It's our business if Canadians are going to go there and get arrested.

BTW, in theory I agree with respecting the sovereignty of other countries.

Wow, almost an hour for you to throw that inane opinion based contrary response into the mix. Were you napping?

BTW, political activism regardless of ideology or sociopolitical position ALWAYS has an "agenda". If you see fit to not recognize that fact then there is no hope for you. :D

You're actually timing my responses?

Okay, so apparently you agree with Obvious Li that there is "constant blizzard, promotion, advancement and enforcement of the "gay agenda" in our schools, lives, work places and politics".

I disagree. I just think you're being paranoid.

We could pick away at the definition of "agenda" and say there's a "gay agenda" of wanting equal rights, but there's no "gay agenda" in the way that Obvious is talking about.

No I'm just reading the times marked on each post and as always you were pretty predicable in your timing and your response.

First of all I don't really know what Obvious has in mind when it comes to the "gay agenda" so I don't know if I agree with it or not and I don't care how the alleged "gay agenda" is defined. Gay proponents for change or equal rights or what have you, have an "agenda", this much is fact because you cannot have a common purpose for change without one.  It is also fact that some gay advocates do indeed push their "agenda" harder and further than others do. At times it can easily be misconstrued as a "constant blizzard, promotion, advancement and enforcement of the "gay agenda" in our schools, lives, work places and politics", especially when the media is so quick to pick up on it and beat the drum. Denying that it doesn't exist in some form is as usual, you being contrary or contrary's sake.

I'm not arguing with you dumbass.

All I'm saying is that there IS an agenda attached to gay activism. Your assessment of it isn't necessarily accurate simply because you believe it to be. Unless you are the originator or practitioner of a particular agenda you really don't know exactly what the agenda entails. All you have is perception and opinion.

Which BTW, is just about all YOU ever have to offer on just about every issue you wade into. :D
