Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and her husband own a financial stake in WeChat parent company Tencent Holdings, even as the Commerce Department reviews a ban of the Chinese tech giant.



Raimondo and her husband Andrew Moffit own a stake worth between $21,500 and $44,500 in Tencent Holdings, according to a financial disclosure filed Jan. 19 with the Office of Government Ethics (OGE). The recently-confirmed commerce secretary promised to divest from other financial positions, citing potential conflicts of interest, but did not mention divesting from her stake in Tencent Holdings.

President Joe Biden's nominee Neera Tanden has withdrawn her nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget, the White House confirmed on Tuesday, signifying the first cabinet defeat for the Biden administration.



Tanden's request to withdraw comes as senators expressed reservations about the nominee over her incendiary statements that had insulted lawmakers, including those who are currently in office.

Granholm told senators during her confirmation hearing in late January that some jobs in the fossil fuel industry "might be sacrificed" as a result of the Biden administration's climate agenda.



Republican Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, the ranking member of the Senate energy committee, said Thursday that he could not "in good conscience" vote for Granholm. He later said the Biden administration "seems to want to pull the plug on American energy dominance."

William Burns, the nominee for CIA director, received a Super Bowl group trip from Saudi Arabia's ambassador when he served as president of a prominent foreign policy think tank, according to responses he provided to the Senate Intelligence Committee ahead of his confirmation hearing on Wednesday.



Burns disclosed other gifts from foreign dignitaries he received while at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said Friday that he will oppose President Joe Biden's nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Neera Tanden.



Manchin released a statement saying her "overtly partisan statements" in the past would affect her work at the OMB and would impact her work with members of Congress.



"I have carefully reviewed Neera Tanden's public statements and tweets that were personally directed towards my colleagues on both sides of the aisle from Senator Sanders to Senator McConnell and others. I believe her overtly partisan statements will have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next director of the Office of Management and Budget," Manchin said in the statement.



A number of Republican senators have continued to hammer Tanden over her past comments and donations to Democrats. In the House, Budget Committee Republicans urged senators to reject Tanden's nomination in a letter sent Tuesday.

As part of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's work with China, Burns invited a group of congressional staffers on a junket to China in 2019 where they met with a professor who works for the Chinese Communist Party's central committee. They also met with the president of a prominent Chinese front group.



Zhang Yichen, a Carnegie board member and prominent donor, is a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, which advises the Chinese Communist Party on policy issues.
