So why pin what no country is free of onto a country that is the most free, or up until recently, more free than anywhere else.... for better and worse?

No country is free of those commodities.

They don't have the market on merits or misconduct....

Victoria is a good case study.

Well, if they confined their filthy habits to their own country, you'd have a point.

To the American mind, anything that turns a buck is fair play.

Toxic food, cigarettes, sugar loaded drinks, firearms, news media, violence, fake wrestling, opiates and of course, religion.

If there's money in it, America will corporatise it.

All of the items have their merits....

Yep. They kill, deceive or scam.

I said "merits"....

It is akin to ALL capitalist countries...but which other country has a massive evangelical industry, or a fast food/soft drink industry, or a massive firearms industry, or massive tobacco corporations, or fake news outlets, or drug company opiate dealers???

In what country did Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christadelphians and Mormons arise?

As a Christian, I'm sure you'll have views on the integrity of American religious organisations.

Comparing other countries to America isn't comparing apples with apples. Of all the nations of the world past and present, America is unique.

We have all those things in Canada..

My husband and I are five point Calvinist Christians.....so the dispensationalism alone of those types of easy believism ministries was antithetical to us.

That describes most countries..

As for faith, I remember Seoul saying that the church has more influence in South Korea than any country he has ever seen.

Billy Graham was the only one I ever trusted. He was the real deal.

What was "real" about him?

Net assets of his "ministry" last year; $394,798,811.

Just another con artist making money from the fear and paranoia of American citizens. Even when dead.

Jesus H. His boy took over the minsitry. And he has that mega charity, Samartan's Purse.

American evangelism. The most lucrative con ever perpetrated...and they still get away with it.

They have lost all the culture wars and no longer have much if any influence over politics.

Praise Jesus for that.

Actually it was not Jesus, rather it was the   acc_devil that took away their  influence & now uses it for his (or her  :icon_wink:) purposes

See several threads on "progs" "wokes" "CRT" etc. etc. for absolute proof

I am getting mixed messages. Do you think those wealthy televangelists using their pulpits to advance their agenda was good for American democracy?

Sorry for kibitzing around & confusing ... I detest all televangelists with a passion .. charlatans to the core   ..

even  Graham was a slick salesman, not a preacher

Some of them tried to help Reps get votes I suppose .. but those votes were there without the salesmen .. so while some tried, I doubt many added to the vote total significantly
