Ford did what no other megacity mayor before him — not David Miller and not Mel Lastman — could do.



Ford and his council allies negotiated four-year labour deals with the city's inside and outside workers, without a garbage strike, while winning important concessions from the unions that will save taxpayers more than $100 million over five years.



Ford, and his council allies contracted out half the city's garbage collection, which will save taxpayers almost $80 million over seven years — and which should be extended across the entire city as soon as possible.



Ford rescinded Miller's hated $60 vehicle registration fee, a cynical tax grab that mimicked a similar provincial fee and gave the public absolutely no benefit in return.



Ford and his allies had the TTC declared an essential service, lowering the risk of future transit strikes.



Ford and his allies succeeded in slashing councillors' office budgets by $900,000, and the mayor, leading by example, slashed his own office budget by $700,000.



Prior to Ford's mayoralty, councillors' budgets were being wasted on such outrageous nonsense as then-outgoing councillor Kyle Rae throwing himself a $12,000 retirement party on the public's dime.



And that it is not, despite the attitude of Ford's spendthrift opponents on the left, to operate City Hall as if it was an employment agency for city staff.



As a result, Ford's administration was starting to get city spending under control, while delivering annual property tax hikes of 0% in 2011, 2.5% in 2012 and 2% in 2013, compared to annual tax hikes of 3% during the first three years of the Miller era.



Toronto's city hall was a cesspool of self-indulgence, gouging citizens and cronyism prior to Ford and will no doubt return when he does lose his job. We have year after year of tax increases above the rate of inflation and the City Manager has already warned us to expect a 5.5% increase next year. Maybe we can trade our new irresponsible, big spending yet sober new mayor(Don Iveson) for  Rob Ford. Actually, I see him dying from deep vein thrombosis on the 4 hour flight here. :?

Those labour deals were his greatest achievements. It is all forgotten now.



I can't stand looking at his fat face. This circus has to end soon. Either resign or temporarily step down, so the city can be governed again.

I don't care about any of his mayoral accomplishments, he is unfit for office..

I was reading a few minutes ago that after Monday he will be mayor in name only. Seems council is going to strip some of his decision making powers.



He should have announced he was taking a leave of absence to get treatment for booze and drugs. Come back a few months later and he would probably win reelection. Everyone loves a success story and hey it worked for DC mayor Marion Barry.

He should have stepped down about 10 days ago. He could have went into rehab, returned and won easy reelection. Now Toronto risks in 2014 returning to the corrupt, profligate spending and ripping off of taxpayers of the Miller/Lastman regimes.

the hatred the main stream media have shown for Ford is scandalous...these talking pointy heads wonder why people are sticking with him...it seems pretty obvious to me......they hate the media exponentially more than they hate Ford....the jackals and buffoons in the MSM, chief among them the CBC, are once again showing their true colors in this affair.....can you believe that clip showing the media collectively singing na na na na hey hey hey goodby as he is getting into an elevator.....simply unbelievable.......independent, balanced news reporting ....do they actually think they can sell that bullshit anymore...more and more the MSM is becoming the press agents of the radical left.

The average person in Toronto is going to be worse off after he leaves and is replaced with an Olivia Chow. That is just a fact. Toronto city hall WILL go back to using the average taxpayer as their personal piggy bank. I feel bad for working people in that city.

You have to admit though he is his own worst enemy. Smoking crack, DUI's, racial slurs, hanging out with gangsters. Some of it is silly like the texting or him getting angry when a mob shows up at his house unexpectedly. No one cares about his record anymore. It is time he moves on to a new career.
