The National Theatre of Scotland has banned the word "spooky" over its "racial connotations" despite nobody complaining and despite there being no record of it ever being used as a racial slur in the United Kingdom.

"A source at the Scottish theatre told the Daily Record that no one has complained about the term "spooky" but they were concerned the word could become problematic in the future," reports RT.

So based on the prospect that somebody, somewhere, might be offended in the future by a completely non-controversial word, it has to be banned.

Apparently, the word "spooky" may have been used in America 80 years ago during World War II to refer to black pilots, meaning it must be expunged from our consciousness for eternity.

Irony being as I well know the black squadron of fighter pilots was so good it was demanded as protection to accompany bombers by many lilly white bomber pilots and crews

I should do a thing on the Tuskegee squadron

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps (AAC), a precursor of the U.S. Air Force.

Trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama, they flew more than 15,000 individual sorties in Europe and North Africa during World War II.

Their record was outstanding

I would. Blacks should be proud of their airmen .... I am, but then I know a fair bit about them .. Spooks was meant as compliment .. although most likely have been shielded from any mention of them .. not in their curriculum for whites to choose to put their lives in their hands

No words are "banned" here per se. Some are heavily discouraged, but they are the rather obvious ones.

If there are any Brits among us, they might have an entire catalogue of banned words. The UK is the citadel of Thoughtcrimes and the home of Ingsoc (English Socialism). Calling someone a "Paki" in the UK is a hate crime, despite the fact that it is merely an abbreviation of their country of origin.
