A number of you have touted the benefits of Junk Silver?

I've got a few coins at home mainly gathered through pocket change that I put aside.

Years ago, coins were made from 80% silver.

USA discontinued this practice in 1964.

Canada followed in 1968.

But I'm curious as to why a number of ya would place so much value in it?

Is it a hedge against hard times?

And if was excepted as a form a paymnet, would the seller take it by weight?

Would it be useful as a bartering tool as opposed to payment for items?

I'm not entirely sure what ya'll reasoning.

So enlighten me and discuss!

When the SHTF, they are an easy means of exchanging money for goods. Paper will be worthless.

It isnt any more basic than that.

That's why I have a basement full of ammo and MREs.  Good for barter.

Actually many people doen't seem to realize it, but if the US Dollar collapsed, so probably would the Canadian dollar. I don't think people realize how close Canada is economically tied with the US

Therefore in the event of a US dollar collapse, gold might be the only true viable currency.
Either that, or the Swiss Franc - which apparently is backed by Gold.

Even all this hype about bitcoin being a replacement for the USD - its fortunes are probably tied to the USD as well.   tbh I think what could/would kill bitcoin is the collapse of the US dollar.

If people are fearfl of a US dollar collapse, then they should buy gold.
Silver or junk silver might also work, tho it would be a poor second to Gold.

1 US dollar is worth 0.01 in 1925 currency and 0.02 in 1970 currency. I'd say the dollar collapsed already.

Both have limited lifespans, and MRE's are toxic.

You'd do better with heirloom seeds...

I've seen Mad Max.  When the Zombie Apocalypse comes, no one is gonna worry about expiration dates.

The ability to kill people will be paramount.

Yep.

I'm focused on

a) solar energy to power the essentials
b) a shit ton of non perishable items & growing my own food which I can do quite easily on 2 acres of land
c) A shit ton of ammo and weapons. I'm up to 5 rifles and 7 handguns and over 5000 rounds in various assortments

That list is NOT in a prioritized order

I don't even throw away dead tree limbs anymore as they are an excellent source of firewood. I just stock them at the outskirtz of my property line

Smart!

BTW, my son in law has been telling me Shooters World and Tactical Shit have been having really good deals on ammo. 9mm as low as $0.25/round. 223/5.56 is cheap as well.
