 He took me to Cananda on my 19th birthday. My mom was also with us and some other guy who is dead now was there.

 I got checked out and hit on by a table of men and I told them I had a boyfriend and pointed him out. They bought him drinks all night telling him how lucky he was. And then I bought him a rose from this old lady who was walking around selling roses.

 He STILL has the petals. I'm 43 now.

That honestly makes sense.  They are especially unhappy around the holidays because everyone else is happy and they realize they are truly unhappy.
