I do admit tanks have lost their edge long time ago after RPG29 or shape charges have entered the battlefield, and carriers are heading towards the same direction. 

My brother says the navy is still needed as a projection of power, and I assume carriers will shift closer to being an utility and support vessel rather than fighting on the front lines.

I fully agree with submarines, they're probably a lot of them already.
