The Big Bend which is set to be constructed in Manhattan, New York, will become the world's longest building. This upcoming building will span 4,000 feet in a single continuous upside-down U shape as reported by The US Sun.

The unusual design of the building was created in order to circumvent the existing planning regulations that are very strict.

Currently, the real estate developers are taking advantage of a planning law that is in place. This law permits them to buy air rights from the surrounding buildings. Having its curved design, the "Big Bend" will be able to occupy more air space without necessarily having to incur additional costs for its overall height.

This innovative shape is quite an advantage in that it allows developers and constructors to build taller buildings on smaller plots. This therefore cuts down their overall costs.

Furthermore, it is also quite important to note that this building has been designed by the company Oiio in partnership with the designer Ioannis Oikonomou.

"In case we manage to bend our building structure, instead of bending the zoning rules of New York, it is undebatable that we will construct the most prestigious building in Manhattan", Oikonomou stated.

With the two buildings on either side of it, it looks like a giant paperclip.

South Korea President Yoon declares martial law

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday declared martial law in an unannounced late night address broadcast live on YTN television, claiming he would eradicate "shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces".

He did not cite any specific threat from the nuclear-armed North, however, instead focusing on his domestic political opponents.

The surprise move sent shockwaves through the country, which had a series of authoritarian leaders early in its history but has been considered democratic since the 1980s. The Korean won was down sharply against the U.S. dollar.

Yoon said he had no choice but to resort to such a measure in order to safeguard free and constitutional order, saying opposition parties have taken hostage of the parliamentary process to throw the country into a crisis.

"I declare martial law to protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the despicable pro-North Korean anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people, and to protect the free constitutional order," Yoon said.

The political left in South Korea's idea of opposition is to oppose everything just like the Democrats do. But, the Korean president is playing right into their hands.

The South Korean president did not clarify what specific measures would be taken, Yonhap reported, citing the full military decree, which bans all political and parliamentary activities and allows arrests without a warrant.

The decree also prohibits "denying free democracy or attempting a subversion," and outlaws "fake news" and "manipulating public opinion." People who violate the decree can be arrested or raided without the need for a warrant.

Crazy times.

The martial law decree in South Korea seemed to come out of nowhere. It is not a country I would expect something so extreme.

President Yoon Suk Yeol withdrew a martial law order that had sparked chaotic scenes in Seoul.

The order created turmoil, drawing thousands of protesters to the gates outside the National Assembly.

Lawmakers - some scaling the parliament's perimeter walls - evaded police lines to gather and vote down the order, but the army said it would remain until revoked by the president himself.

Then in a sudden reversal in the early hours, Yoon Suk Yeol said martial law would be lifted and troops withdrawn.
