Words on ammo in CEO shooting echo common phrase on insurer tactics - 'Delay, deny, defend'

A message left at the scene of a health insurance executive's fatal shooting — "deny," "defend" and "depose" — echoes a phrase commonly used to describe insurer tactics to avoid paying claims.

The three words were written on the ammunition a masked gunman used to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday. They're similar to the phrase "delay, deny, defend" — the way some attorneys describe how insurers deny services and payment, and the title of a 2010 book that was highly critical of the industry.

Police haven't officially commented on the wording or any connection between them and the common phrase. But Thompson's shooting and the messages on the ammunition have sparked outrage on social media and elsewhere, reflecting a deepening frustration Americans have over the cost and complexity of getting care.

"Delay, deny, defend" has become something of a rallying cry for insurance critics. The terms refer to insurers delaying payment on claims, denying claims and defending their actions.

"The longer they can delay and deny the claim, the longer they can hold onto their money and they're not paying it out," said Lea Keller, managing partner at Lewis and Keller, a North Carolina-based personal-injury law firm.

From the stories I read about social media reactions to the event, mainly leftists were high fiving each other and hoping other CEOs eat a bullet.  So whether it was righteous or not likely depends on personal politics.

America's top internet sleuths reveal why they're REFUSING to help cops find UnitedHealthcare boss' assassin

America's top internet sleuths have refused to help law enforcement officials track down the assassin of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The 50-year-old father-of-two was gunned down earlier this week, with the footage of his assassination circulating on social media amidst an ongoing manhunt for his killer.

Typically this type of high-profile violent crime sets platforms including TikTok and X alight with buzz, with amateur internet sleuths hunting to root out the perpetrator.

Michael McWhorter, better known as TizzyEnt on TikTok, said in a video: 'I have yet to see a single video that's pounding the drum of 'we have to find him,' and that is unique.'

He told his 6.7 million followers: 'I don't think it's that difficult to figure out why. There isn't a single person in this country who hasn't themselves or had someone very near and dear to them suffer from the abysmal thing that is privatized healthcare.

Thompson's assassin has become an anonymous folk hero to those that believe single payer health care will magically give Americans better access to quality health care. As the Canadian example proves, that could not be any further from the truth.

Look who was being investigated for insider trading...

While far from ideal, I am happier with my health coverage here than I was in Canada.

I suspect they know who the killer is and are observing him while they sort out who else was involved.

Judging the 'Murican "health care" system by the opinions of people who like it the way it is might as well be saying the 'Murican economy is great because the stock market went up today or that we've solved the 'Murican hunger issue because I had a nice cheeseburger for lunch.

It's myopic and will lead to even more desperate actions by desperate people.

Only my opinion, of course.

Brother, our health care system is a no competition government rationed one and it is falling apart as I post.
Unlike the Seoul Brother, I aint a private is always best kinda guy. All I know is both rich countries in North America are missing the hospital gspot mark with different arrows.

Health Care is not a God given inalienable right. Get the fucking gubmints the fuck out of healthcare.

Reggie Essent

There's a lot of weird shit with this story. It's funny how the assassin is made out to be some kind of folk hero within 48 hours by the usual Leftist suspects, almost as if they had the script ready beforehand.

Now this insider trading thing?

Interesting times ...

Sorry, I'm not toeing the party line on this one lulz.. Although I'm not 'celebrating' the death of this piece of shit scumbag, I'm certainly not losing sleep over it either.

When this killing took place, the first thing I did was look at reviews given about UHC from customers, and I couldn't believe the unscrupulous tactics this company used to screw Americans out of healthcare. :'( Read up and then get back to me on how horrible you feel about this man's demise.

Some of these reviews are HEARTBREAKING- This company is a SCAM.

I am not disagreeing with anything you posted. But, Mr Thompson's murder will not change anything. If Trudeau is assassinated we are still stuck with the anachronistic Canada Health Act.
