I don't know what census that meme is talking about, cause by your link, it don't even mention Jews lol. Unless it was talking about how many slaves there was, and compiled it from some of the other sources that were listed.

My personal belief, is that slavery is a vast topic, that you are always learning new things.

Do I believe it was mostly Jews that owned slaves, or that most Jews in general owned slaves? "Could" be, considering how involved in slavery they were. Do I believe it as fact? No, but it makes me want to learn more.

I skimmed Alabama. The official numbers sync with some other data I read. About 35% of White households were slave owners in 1860 in that state.

One other point to remember is that the American Jewish population was miniscule and assimilated until the waves of East European Jewish immigration starting in the 1880's.

In other words they weren't a separate identity yet. They were considered White.

In the US they had Anglo names because they were the dominant slave holding group. In Haiti, slaves all had French names because all slave owners were French. In South America, descendents of slaves have Spanish and Portuguese names for the same reason.

I like that no Coloured folks have East Slavic names. No guilting this old Uke.

Hey Blazor, I have spent some time in Israel. Most Israelis are aware that West European Jews were complicit in the West European slave trade and ownership. They were bit players in the US, but not in the Dutch East Indies.

I remember reading in the Jersualem Post that Jews were about 2 percent of the Netherlands population in the mid nineteenth century but represented 17% of slave traders and 4% of slave owners in the Dutch East Indies. Now, a lot of those traders were not Dutch Jews. A lot of them were Jews descended from Jewish merchants expelled from the Iberian Peninsula countries. They arranged contracts and hired boats. Small business owners and farmers would typically own one to five slaves. Both Jewish and non Jewish.
