Quote from: Lokmar on April 14, 2025, 10:05:25 AMMy dad died in the late 90's from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with arteriosclerosis. He was a mechanic, car salesman, pool hustler, etc. He was very intelligent but not much of a dad or husband. He left my mom when I was about 5 or 6 I think. He slapped her around a fair amount. All his brothers died the same way, late 40's to early 50's.

My mom is still alive. I was down in Florida helping to take care of her after her neck surgery a few months back. She's married to a man that worships the ground she walks on. Really, he's a bit of a doormat. She worked in an office most of her life doing payroll and handling health insurance.

I've got 4 kids. the 2 from my first marriage live in Florida near Orlando and my second 2 are from my second marriage and still live at home, going to college.

I've been blessed to have my second wife who is nothing like my first wife. She's a very calming force in our family and maybe does too much for our kids. She's a great mom. She has a LOT of college education that has helped her land a high paying job which provides us with good health insurance. She's a very sweet person and much better than I ever deserve. I've never yelled at her whereas my ex and I yelled at each other constantly.

I'm told my ex is a much better person now that she's on meds. I still refuse to be around her. I think I might hate her as much today as I did 20 years ago. She always had something to say that would get under my skin. Even picking dinner was a damned fight.

I am sad your first marriage was a flop but I am glad your 2nd wife is a perfect fit. Well done.

And more importantly your kids are happy and well occupied with college.... very good.

Lol.

That seemed like a very ethnic marriage Lokmar!

Almost Jewish from the sounds of it.

I remember the poster CC was like that too.

Argumentative & mouthy, eh.

My father was a very good person, very smart & a high achiever. So much so that none of his children except perhaps my sister was nearly as intelligent.

I wasn't that close to him but he was fundamentally a decent man & a good provider for my siblings and mother.

It was painful to watch him get old and frail where he once had been quite strong & mentally acute. Tho he never lost his mental faculties. I watched him die at home after he fell into a coma.

When one of his brothers, my uncle, fell on hard times Dad bailed him out, saved his farm & his struggling family. Never asked for repayment either tho im sure the debt owing was very steep. I suppose if he didn't bail him out my uncle would have lost the farm. Today one of his children became very successful and was able to afford a comfortable retirement for their mother & he bought his sister a home.

I remember visiting him in the hospital before he passed away. And there was a moment eerily reminiscent of a scene in 2001 Space Odyssey where the aging astronaut Dave raised his hand towards the ceiling before he was about to die. My father did the same thing.

So the movie director Stanley Kubrick must have observed that phenomenon himself in dying patients.

That's the last moment I remember when I saw my Father awake. He raised his right hand to the ceiling as if he was pointing at something.

But before you do, I will post photos of my Gold stash to prove that I am telling you the truth if you like, avatar_Brent Brent

Yknow Brent you oughta be grateful to my Grandfather who fought to improve working conditions for employees at your company. Grandpa worked for 16 cents an hour shovelling coal into the trains of the old CPR. And he attended the Winnipeg General Strike.

If you have a pension with amazing benefits, thank my Grand Dad, Brent.

I can post quotes or photos from his diary for you Brent.

We had a mixed farm when I was growing up. We raised canola, barley, and beef cattle.
I own a mixed farm too.

He was hallucinating probably reaching for an Angel to take him to heaven. It would be something like that which would be very peaceful.

You told me about your dad once DKG how he sent money back to his old country and generously helped people.

Is your dad still alive and what's he up to these days?

What about your mum?
