Cheaper to let the Saudi's pump and refine it for us, not the least because three quarters of their oil reserves are sweet crude, way cheaper and easier to turn into gasoline than the sulfur rich stuff you'd be pulling out of the Alberta tar sands. Why else do you think the petrodollar has survived so long?

It is dirt cheap to produce Saudi oil. But, it comes with a huge security price that Western Canadian Select does not.
