China has increased tariffs to 75.8 per cent on canola. A response to the federal government's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

These tariffs will have a devastating impact on the prarie provinces canola industry.

This is in addition to China's 100 per cent tariffs on canola oil, canola meal, pea imports, and 25 per cent tariffs on pork and aquatic products.

Our federal government cannot sacrifice a $43.7 billion industry in western Canada to protect a fledgling electric vehicle industry in eastern Canada.

Canola farmers create nearly 200,000 jobs in Canada, almost all of those on the prairies.

To put that in context, the Canadian canola industry is significantly larger than the Canadian steel industry, the aluminum industry and the car manufacturing industry.

We need the federal government to take immediate action to protect our agricultural industry and end this trade war with China. But, they almost certainly will do nothing.
