Quote from: J E B Stuart on June 13, 2025, 11:12:40 PMHughie Thomasson had no equal on the Fender Strat. This song was The Outlaws magnum opus and remains steadfastly present on many of my playlists. I've seen The Outlaws twice over the years and also got to see Hughie perform live during his nine year stint with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Sadly, he died of a heart attack in 2007 at only 55 years of age.  His music definitely lives on:

Amen.
I saw him with Skynyrd. A gifted guitarist.

I must be going senile. It is a travesty that Jeff Beck hasn't been mentioned. So, let's fix that:

Sadly, Beck died from a bacterial meningitis infection January 10, 2023.  He was 78. I should also note that he's a two-time member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: 1) as a member of The Yardbirds ; and  2) as a solo artist:

Amen.

Alvin Lee, who died in 2013, is one of the most underrated Limey guitarists of all time. He was best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the blues rock band Ten Years After.  His performance of "I'm Going Home" at the original Woodstock festival is legendary:

Gary Richrath was another under-acknowledged superb guitarist.  He was a founding member of R.E.O. Speedwagon. He left the band in 1989 and formed Richrath.  That band released one album called "Only The Strong Survive".  Sadly, Gary died Sept. 23, 2015.  You can see (and hear) him live in this clip.  He has curly hair and red collarless shirt.  He had great stage presence:
