I can confirm the former. When I first arrived here and started posting anonymously, I was quickly met with a ban screen. And I knew I hadn't trampled on the ToS and, so I simply switched to a different VPN location and I was back in. This process was repeated a couple of times, at which point I mentioned something about it and was told my IP wasn't banned. I knew it had been, people here knew it had been and I suspect the expectation was that I would chimp out with proof in the form of screencaps and argument. So I didn't; I simply changed my VPN location to get around the latest ban and said "okay then" and let the matter drop. I can't remember how many more IP bans I got, but it was a small handful of times and it ceased.

Had Fash admitted to the bans, I likely would have said "okay then" and simply ceased contributing here altogether. I didn't (and still don't) see any point in an extended back and forth with forum owners who are openly against my presence whether I am abiding by the forum rules or not. Instead I ended up becoming a mod of the place. Still am as far as I can tell from my handle being listed as one, though I never bother to login to that account any more.

Sounds like the IP bans were generated automatically by anti-spam software and the forum admins weren't aware of how the process worked.

If they didn't want you there they'd have simply banned the account not the IP address.
