Something else I heard mentioned that bears repeating; these protesters are pretty much moralfagging for the dopamine hits on social media. While they claim to be for the cessation of hostilities in the middle east, the reality is quite the opposite; they WANT the war to continue.

Because if the war ends, if peace is actually achieved, they are without something to carp and cry and seethe about. They become irrelevant. They no longer get that warm squishy feeling in their panties that they love so very, very much.

Public universities in Florida may soon have to hire more Americans, thanks to a decision from Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In an announcement on October 29, DeSantis directed the Florida Board of Governors to "pull the plug" on the use of H-1B visas for faculty and staff at Florida state universities.

In explaining the decision, DeSantis criticized companies for prioritizing visa-holders over American workers: "These tech companies will fire Americans and hire H-1B at a discount. ... This is basically, in some respects, cheap labor that they're bringing in to try to save money."

The governor said these practices hurt American workers, who should be first in line at American universities.

He would normally spend part of the winter in Florida, he told reporters this week, but couldn't bring himself to do so this year on account of President Donald Trump's general unfriendliness.

Ron Desantis pointed out, Florida tourism isn't struggling . "Actually," DeSantis responded to Ford on social media, "we continue to break tourism records (and win Stanley Cups)."

True enough, international visitors to the Sunshine State in 2024 were down 12 per cent over 2019 levels, before the pandemic. But domestic overnight visitors to the state in 2024 were 12 per cent more in 2024 than in 2019. And there are obviously a lot more domestic visitors to Florida than international visitors: 131 million Americans stayed overnight in 2024, versus 12 million foreigners.

Florida leads the nation in cooperating with ICE enforcement.

Ron DeSantis on May 27 called for a special legislative session to pass his plan to exempt homeowners from paying property taxes on their permanent residence.

The Republican governor revealed his plans to sign a proclamation that would require state lawmakers to convene in Tallahassee and discuss his "Save Our Homes" proposal starting on June 1.

"Taxing something that you own repeatedly, which is a property tax, is the worst way to do taxation," DeSantis said in a news conference on May 27.
