When I hear of parties(usually leftist ones) suggesting extending voting rights to 16 year olds, I just fucking wince. We already have enough ignorant dunces being pandered to with our money. Bribing kiddies at election time is stupid.

Of the fundamental rights, the right to vote, the freedom of speech, religion and press etc - the right to vote is the least important. Free speech occured long before universal suffrage, as did freedom of press and religion. You can have them without having the right to vote. Everyone - exactly everyone - in the US has freedom of speech, even a five year old. But the right to vote is limited to those above 18, because only those above 18 can be trusted to have developed a good enough understanding of the world to vote (that is of course just one reason, but it pretty much sums it up

What will extending the vote solve? Like what problem are we addressing with this age change?

I think we should spend more time talking about getting rid of political parties.

16year olds dont know anything about anything so the shithead parties can scam their votes with a box of candies and bright colours.

Same with the immigrants... They expect votes from them.

They actually attack an immigrant if she/he doesnt vote left...

My family knew what martial law was like before Taiwan became a democratic country.

Dunno. Some retain progism into their later years. Seems for every avenue we explore there is a roadblock at the end of it ac_smile

As trends shift, the best we (all Western democracies) ever get might be a 2 or 3 out of 10 ... in a good year

Election results affect all of us.. Voting should be done by people with reason.

On one hand, my family has opposed dictatorship, but on the other hand, we do not participate in the democratic process in our new country.
