The headline in our local paper after the NZ tragedy was "The Face Of White Hate" over a picture of the offender.



Will we see the same headline over a picture of Tanis - "The Face Of Islamic Hate"?

Perhaps Wazzzup will know, but I don't recall John Allen Muhammad being described as the face of Black hate.

Good example from the old memories file.  Yeah, even though he was  member of the hate group --Nation of Islam, and deliberately targeted whites, (most news stories don't even mention these things)  there was no media talk about black hate, no talk about racism.  Same goes for other black hate criminals.

Caylan Ford has resigned as a candidate for the United Conservative Party (UCP) in the riding of Calgary-Mountain View following a report that claimed she complained that people don't treat white supremacist terrorists the same way they do Islamic terrorists, and that she "echoed white nationalist rhetoric."



On Monday, PressProgress — an "independent, non-profit newsroom" that is also a "media project" launched by NDP-affiliated think tank the Broadbent Institute — published a story alleging that Ford echoed that rhetoric in a series of Facebook messages after a white supremacist killed a woman while ramming protesters with his car during a 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Va..



PressProgress reported that the messages — which they said were provided by a "long-time Muslim conservative" who requested anonymity — showed Ford arguing that "when the perpetrator is an Islamist, the denunciations are intermingled with breathless assurances that they do not represent Islam, that Islam is a religion of peace, Etc."



That message, reported PressProgress, was followed up with the question from a Facebook user, who asked, "And when it comes to neo-Nazi terrorism?"



Ford allegedly responded, "When the terrorists are white supremacists, that kind of soul-searching or attempts to understand the sources of their radicalization or their perverse moral reasoning is beyond the pale. And anyone who shares even some of their views (e.g. wanting strong borders and immigration control), while rejecting the more odious aspects, is painted with the same brush."

Islamists and white supremacists working together to bring about a clash of civilizations?



The most troubling news for Canada that came out of the New Zealand terror attack, aside from the tragic facts of the attack itself, was the reference to Alexandre Bissonnette.



The man behind the Quebec City mosque shooting received a troubling shout out from Brenton Tarrant, who is charged in the New Zealand killing spree. Tarrant had Bissonette's name emblazoned on one of his weapons as a sort of homage, a sign of solidarity.



There were two others mentioned on the same weapon — Luca Traini and Sebastiano Venier. The first one is easier to figure out than the second. Traini is an Italian currently in prison for shooting half a dozen Afghan migrants in what he argued was retaliation for the murder of a young Italian women by a failed asylum seeker.



Venier is a different story. He was a political figure in the 16th century, briefly serving as the Doge of Venice. But the other job he took on was likely the one that caught Tarrant's attention. Venier played a leading role in the Battle of Lepanto — an important victory in the fight against the Ottoman Empire that was considered a key Christian push back against invading Muslim forces.



Factor in the reports that Tarrant was obsessed with the Crusades and travelled across Europe for these purposes, to say nothing of the contents of his lengthy manifesto, and an even more troubling picture emerges:[size=150] Tarrant and those like him aren't just random nuts who suddenly snap. They believe the clash of civilizations is upon us and are hungry for the fight.[/size]



Sound familiar? [size=150]This is what has been argued by the ideologues behind al-qaida and ISIS for years now, with all of their talk about Western Crusaders and the need to conquer lost lands.[/size]



Now the radical Islamists are no longer alone. [size=150]A growing number of white supremacists now seem to share the Islamist view of a global conflagration,[/size] they've just joined the other side. More teams eager to square off against each other are being added to the league.



Are anyone's ears in Canada perking up to heed the call? If a Canadian such as Bissonnette can offer inspiration to someone on the other side of the world, will Tarrant in turn offer inspiration to other Canadians? Will the cycle of violence only worsen? An ISIS attack one day, followed by a white supremacist attack the next?



Let's hope not. But a decade ago, before Norwegian Anders Breivik came along, these sort of attacks were almost unheard of. Now they're becoming more common.



[size=150]The way Tarrant toured Europe isn't all that different from the way many dozens of Canadian ISIS terrorists have gone abroad to tour Iraq and Syria.[/size]



This is a wake-up call that violent white supremacy, previously a local affair, has gone global, with terrorists from across the world acting in solidarity with each other. It's like when you have two rival gangs in a city at war with each other, with the rest of us hoping to not get caught in the middle.



So what do we do about it? How do we assess the situation?



Canadian intelligence agencies are already cash-strapped and torn in multiple directions. They've previously told parliamentary committees that they just don't have the resources to monitor returning ISIS terrorists 24/7. (Their priority should be to lock them up.)



As they deal with these pressures, they may now have to deal with monitoring and tracking anyone out there showing serious allegiance to Tarrant's cause.



Yes, the facts and statistics tell us the Islamist threat is still the greater one. But that doesn't mean we just sit here and let the other side gain ground.

Dutch prosecutors investigating the murder of three people on a tram say a letter was found in the gunman's getaway car and it is one of the reasons why a terrorist motive is being seriously considered.



"So far a terrorist motive is being seriously taken into account. Among other things a letter found in the getaway car and the nature of the facts give rise to that," a statement said (in Dutch), without detailing the contents of the letter.







Meanwhile Turkish and some Western news agencies were spreading the claim that it was a domestic dispute. .. sigh, always playing the game .. whatever happened to the old "insanity" line?

Here's my take.



The political class are stymied, petrified and utterly incapable of understanding and managing this crisis.



Their life blood is votes and it is gaining and maintaining votes from an increasingly fractured and divided community that pre-occupies them.



"How can we deal with this issue without losing votes?"



The answer is simple. You can't. And you never will. The society this class has created is collapsing under the weight of flawed ideologies, irrational policies and a complete disconnect from the people who employ them. They have no solutions because they are now the problem.



To free ourselves from this anarchy, first we need to remove its architects.
