Pfizer and Moderna COVID Vaccines May Provide 'Persistent' Protection]



The COVID-19 vaccines developed by Moderna and the Pfizer-BioNTech alliance both may provide lasting protection against the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, researchers have said in a new study.



The peer-reviewed study, published on June 28 in Nature, found that the messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines made by Moderna and the Pfizer-BioNTech team induced a "persistent" response within secondary lymphoid tissues, "enabling the generation of robust humoral immunity."



The effect was most pronounced in people who had been previously infected with the CCP virus, with the vaccines also found to produce high levels of neutralizing antibodies against three emerging variants of the virus.



The implication of the findings is that people who received the mRNA vaccines may be protected over the long term—for years or, potentially, for the rest of their lives.



The study didn't look into other COVID-19 vaccine technologies, such as Johnson & Johnson's, which, instead of mRNA, uses a modified adenovirus to deliver genetic information from the CCP virus to human cells to produce an immune response.



The study's lead author, Dr. Ali Ellebedy, an immunologist at Washington University in St. Louis, told The New York Times that he doesn't think the immune response would be as strong with non-mRNA-based vaccines.



It follows a separate study suggesting that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines—as well as the one produced by AstraZeneca—are broadly effective against the highly contagious Delta and Kappa strains of the virus.



While the Oxford University study, of which a peer-reviewed pre-proof has been published in Cell (pdf), found that both the convalescent and vaccine blood sera had a reduced ability to neutralize the Delta and Kappa variants as compared to "ancestral Wuhan related strains," there was "no evidence of widespread antibody escape" as seen with the Beta (B.1.351, formerly "South Africa") variant, "suggesting that the current generation of vaccines will provide protection against the B.1.617 lineage."



However, the researchers noted that the reduced ability of the vaccine and convalescent sera to neutralize the Gamma and Kappa variants "may lead to some breakthrough infections."

A yearly booster may not be necessary.

According to that alone, true. However, for flu vaccines annually, the motive is adjustment  for new and not covered strains. This may well be the case for covid.

It's tempting to say the danger posed by anti-vaxxers would justify their views being banned. That would be wrong

In Russia, Alexei Navalny is jailed for unmasking the riches that Vladimir Putin has assembled. In China, internet access is controlled lest the "wrong" — that is the truthful — message can be heard on a broad scale. In Hong Kong, guaranteed freedoms disappear, critics are silenced and the opposition newspaper is closed so that only the party line can be voiced.



....... Censorship is deemed necessary when ideas are thought to possibly harm societal norms or don't fit our supposed truths. On the surface it sounds reasonable but on deeper reflection it isn't. It leads to even greater societal polarization and distrust of authority. Institutions are allowed to deceive, but individuals need to maintain a higher standard and be silenced.



....... COVID-19 isn't just the flu. The millions of people worldwide who have died due to becoming infected is a truth that cannot be ignored. The tremendous reduction in case counts, hospitalization and death rates due to vaccination is undeniable. The risks of the ever growing impact of the Delta variant is cause for ongoing concern and creates urgent need for overcoming vaccine hesitancy.



Given these facts and the risks of ignoring them, how should we deal with those who deny them in print, blogs and social media? Should we still their voices for the public good? Many advocates of these theories appear to be highly qualified and intelligent, perhaps making their distortion of the facts more compelling and thus more dangerous.



..... Governments regularly cover up mistakes to avoid public embarrassment. Our current government is in breach of Parliament for heavily redacting documents that detail why two Chinese scientists were fired from a Winnipeg virology lab. The argument that the truth would somehow harm national security smells like the same argument unsuccessfully used by Richard Nixon to deny access to his self-incriminating Watergate tapes.



[ Death rates are not .01 as spouted by self-proclaimed truthers .. rather they started at between 6 and 8 % (country specific) in the first onslaught and are not down to 3 to 1.5% (country specific) now that vaccinations are common - For example Canada was over 8% in the early days and is now down to 2% today)]

It is tempting to say that the danger caused by those opposing vaccination, or exaggerating its short- and long-term risks, meets the standards for exceptions to free speech and thus should be banned. It may be of short-term benefit but long-term harm.



Banning unpopular speech simply drives it underground to websites that feed into the belief that censorship of ideas is rampant and is the result of biased government and inappropriate regulation. It increases the current worrisome polarization of thought and cancelling of those with unpopular ideas. It increases the militancy of those denied a voice.
