Our libs are as vile, as entrenched  and as obsessed  as theirs

Our premier has stayed out of these trials, so the opposition NDP may not politicize it as Democrats in the USA have.

Drug Combo with Hydroxychloroquine Promising: NYU Study

NEW YORK - Researchers at NYU's Grossman School of Medicine found patients given the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine along with zinc sulphate and the antibiotic azithromycin were 44 percent less likely to die from the coronavirus.

"Certainly we have very limited options as far as what we have seen work for this infection so anything that may work is very exciting," said Dr. Joseph Rahimian, Infectious Disease Specialist at NYU Langone Health.

The study looked at the records of 932 COVID-19 patients treated at local hospitals with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.

More than 400 of them were also given 100 milligrams of zinc daily.

Researchers said the patients given zinc were one and a half times more likely to recover, decreasing their need for intensive care.

One theory is that hydroxychloroquine may aid a cell's ability to absorb the zinc which has antiviral properties and responds to the infection.

"It sort of boosts the zinc activity which is one of the reasons we thought to look at zinc here and in this observational study we did see a difference suggesting that maybe that boosting activity of the hydroxychloroquine with the zinc helps the zinc to work better and lead to a benefit," Rahimian said.

Dr Theresa Tam finally advises wearing masks.

Canadians should wear masks as an 'added layer of protection,' says Tam

Canada's chief public health officer says Canadians should wear a mask as an "added layer of protection" whenever physical distancing is not possible.

Dr. Theresa Tam provided the updated advice during her daily news conference in Ottawa today.

"For the spring and summer months, strict adherence to the public health basics of physical distancing, handwashing and cough etiquette must continue as the bare minimum," she said.

"In addition, where COVID-19 activity is occurring, use of non-medical masks or face coverings is recommended as an added layer of protection when physical distancing is difficult to maintain. And staying home when sick is a must, always and everywhere."

What We Can Learn From Coronavirus Per Capita Death Rates

he main takeaway from the massive disparities in death rates so far is their regional patterns.

Six months into the global coronavirus pandemic, and more than two months into the widespread lockdowns of American public life, we have lots and lots of data. But what have we learned? The hard data we have today remains flawed, and it can tell us a lot more about the "where" of the pandemic than the "why."

But just knowing the "where" is a start. One of the chief lessons we can take is the difficulty of comparing very different regions of the world. America isn't South Korea or New Zealand, and never could have been.

Another is quite how uniquely bad the situation in the New York metro area has been. (Note "Outside NY lower down in chart)

Nothing in that graph means anything. None of those countries knows their actual number of infected. The US death rate is pure exaggerated bullshit.

These numbers are temporary. Another wave is coming and all these rankings could change.

Dr Birx has acknowledged the American death numbers from COVID is higher than what is reported.

That has to be. Many are sick but don't report.

Some don't know they have it - some die at home with no reporting of covid-positive

I don't fault authorities on that one - They can know only what they know

Science and authorities are both  working away with so little accurate info to work with . . and no way to get good info

With that all in mind, BC is trying hard to beat that with a VERY extensive survey. So far around 300,000 have completed it.

At the end you have the option of being "continuing" and can get check yes for an antibody test once widely available

BC is trying very hard - Problem as I see it is is that those whose info is  most needed are the least likely to complete it
