Quoteso that tells me vaccines are more like treatments.

That's distorting the reality with a small fact while ignoring the main fact

They are mainly (20-1) a preventative for 95% and "secondarily"  a treatment for the 1 in 20 who becomes infected (definitely a good byproduct)

We are in agreement I think, it's your wording implying they are "only" a treatment that is distorting the overall picture and throwing me

Prevention is the major factor by far .. well, by 20 to 1

That said, I do find the 1 in 20 instances "treatment" part a wonderful bonus ... as in the overall picture the odds become far better that 1 in 20 thanks to weaker symptoms for those few who beat the 1 in 20 odds and of catch it

One has to worry less about being in that 1 in 20 chance it doesn't "prevent" .. as it will them silently act as a type of treatment by easing symptoms .. again, Win / Win

Apparently Israel does more testing of the fully vaccinated. I believe if more fully vaccinated people in Canada were tested, the daily infection rate would be much higher.

Vaccines are working very well keeping people out of hospitals. But, I no longer believe they are effective the companies claim as stopping transmission.

Even if that ninety five percent number is a bit high, they still prevent people from catching it.

Variants have reduced their effectiveness, but boosters will probably fix that.

Fash and cc, this is what I am talking about.

Israel says the Delta variant is infecting vaccinated people, representing as many as 50% of new cases. But they're less severe.

As many as half of new COVID-19 cases in Israel are vaccinated people, a health official suggested.

The Delta variant, not as easily beaten by vaccines as other variants, is driving Israel's surge.

Although Infections among vaccinated people have alarmed Israelis, the infections appear to be milder than they are in unvaccinated people.

Alberta is keeping case numbers low so far averaging thirty case a day over the weekend.

Maybe a booster shot will change that.

Could be and while I consider Israel top drawer, I'd like to see other data as many counties and in fact my province are saying no variants are breaking through ....  "1/2" is virtually impossible as Israel is not as heavily vaccinated as we had been lead to believe ... meaning that vaccine would be  stopping zero from getting it .. and everyone else's data says the opposite

Let's wait for more data as a great deal of unreviewed data I have seen says the Delta is not much of a a problem for vaccines

Fash is right on that we will see updated shots  and I'll add sooner rather than later ... I call then "updated for variants" rather than "booster" which implies strengthening alone

[We really need solid data on variant effect upon vaccines  ... all we have to date is conflicting bits and pieces of uncorroborated statements running the gamut of the spectrum from major effect to virtually zero effect  :confused1: ]

I saw that Britain had nearly 35,000 cases yesterday. Some of them had to have been vaccinated.

cc

Today, Weds, we have 41 new cases and 6 consecutive days of 0 deaths .. and 0 for 8 of the last 9 days

80.3% eligible adults have first shot, 50.5% second dose

We were slower getting to 50 on double dosed as we focused for a long time on first dose, stretching the time between doses in most cases but getting more single dosed faster (that was the strategy chosen)

So far opening up has not resulted in many new cases. Death rate / case for past 10 weeks is 0.59 vs. 1.19 from start of this mess

Alta is the only province or country below us (that I can find) in that area at 0.35% for past 10 weeks and 1.00  from start (with only exception being UK "recent" death / case numbers)

Today Tokyo reports highest case numbers in 6 months as Olympics are about to start

UK numbers keep increasing since opening up .. however, death / case rate has fallen to 0.28% for past 10 weeks vs. 2.54% from the start to today

We had eighteen cases today in Saskatchewan and no deaths.

We are under seventy five percent with one dose and and about half of eligible people have had two doses.

Anonymous

In Alberta, 74.3 per cent have one dose and 56.5 per cent of eligible Albertans have had two doses.

The USA had over 28,000 cases yesterday with Florida leading with over 7,000 cases..

Britain had close to 50,000 cases yesterday.

Anonymous

Israel has 830 cases today vs 305 in Canada..

But, Israel had one death while Canada had fifteen.

Vaccinations are preventing sickness and death in Israel.
