Why not live in the US for a few years to get a better understanding of the nation?

I've been there. A claim NO American in this forum or any other I've been involved with can make about Australia.



I've also been to the UK. France. Belgium. Switzerland. Italy. The Netherlands. Singapore. Malaysia. Vanuatu. Cambodia. Thailand. Egypt. Yemen. India. Sri Lanka. Indonesia. Chinese Hong Kong. Every State of Australia. Only Herman has been to more places on the planet (I think).



Every one of these nations has its gifts and wonders, its good people and bad. I've confronted racism in reverse, which was unsettling to say the least. In nearly all these nations I found warmth and hospitality...give a smile and get a smile.



But not ONE proclaims itself to be the greatest nation on Earth and a "Moral leader of democracy" (Kamala Harris' words, not mine) other than America.

I've maintained a residence in Australia for a quarter of a century, mate...and I am American still. I've also lived and visited elsewhere, besides the US.



I wouldn't pretend to be a great judge of the countries I merely visited or spent a couple of months in though.

I've lived in both nations extensively and broadly.



I view the US and Australia having both good and both fucked up attributes, equally, but for some shared and some unique reasons.



I'd pick Mars if given the choice between the two.

And yet you CHOOSE, as I do, to live in Australia. Nonetheless, I have never proclaimed Australia to be perfect, nor superior. But even on the simple measure that you are ten times LESS likely to be shot and killed here than in the US, I think I'd choose to stay here.

I choose to remain because of my children and wife's aging parents. I wouldn't likely remain otherwise. The culture is stifling on civil rights, taxation, and is run like the village in the opening scenes of the movie Willow.

But the approval and support it got was based on representations and justifications that were utterly and obviously falsified. And if they were remotely true, it still did not give America the legal basis to invade Iraq.



If it did, why hasn't the US invaded North Korea? Pakistan? India? Israel? That they possess WMD's is proven beyond doubt. Pakistan is an islamic state!! Iraq was secular.



No. Iraq is a nation of 20 million people. With LOTS of oil and a feeble military. Easy pickings for the US to make a point and enable live testing of some of its military toys. That invasion was a war crime, based on lies to the world.



And Americans just shrug and try to justify it by rhetoric and apathy.

Plus, he's alienated a lot of his base with his insistence of being the jab saviour despite saying that he doesn't believe in mandates. Biden did the same then promptly reversed course.
