The birds in my area eat out of my hands and have begun to perch on my leg or boot. But there's this Kookaburra who follows the Magpies around and just sits there a few feet away and observes like a voyeur.... not wanting any food.

I don't live in Australia. We don't have many birds that aren't terrified of being within 10 metres of humans.

One of my favourites are blue jays, but they're the most timid.

These are special Magpies... they've been thrown scraps so much and so softly, they don't realise that it's to get them closer or close enough to eat from a humans hand. The two Magpies at work won't even fly if I start whistling. They run on the ground like hens up to me unless there are strangers around me, but they still get very close to take food out of my hand.



Same as at home. There are a few different Magpies that fly up and perch on me when I'm eating something on the back deck...



They're very family oriented or social birds. People fear being swooped by them but when I see one flying at me, I'm trying to figure out which one it is.



I like that they land on my boot or lap and start singing. And each one of them have distinct personalities. They're like kids.
