Nothing says intolerance more than religion.

And no...this is not a "God" thread.

I'm shaking my head.

@realAzhyaAryola

Today, I heard a pastor/minister say, "God works in the heart of a person who meditates upon his word."

I once heard a preacher say that if I sent a one time love offering, my family and would receive heavenly blessings. If that were true, everyone would be Lottomax winners.

Religion is a refuge for misfits and the mad.

No doubt. Some more so than others.

Not to question that, but I think maybe it was that guy from below that worked on the heart of the monster  this thread is about

Ah, the devil in disguise, eh?

Nice work.

Only this clearly goes against everything the word teaches. So does the "prosperity gospel".  So when nonreligious people commit crimes what does that mean?  That we blame atheism?  Why don't you guys just place the blame on the human who made the choice?

Exactly. Scripture says even the devil masquerades as an angel of light.

I think we atheists recognise that.

However, it does demonstrate that religion camouflages some very seriously psychotic people.

The same can be said for atheism. A psychotic can twist anything. Blaming religion is like blaming guns.  It's not the tools people use....it's people. As far as Christianity, you can't commit sin in the name of God and label the act a religious one.   Let's pretend all beliefs are wiped out. Human beings will still find reasons to justify horrific acts, only we won't have any equalizers. Faith is more associated with well being than I think you care to admit.

Bricktop

Now,in fact, you present a very good principle for debate.

Let us pretend all beliefs are wiped out. What would humans believe in then? Would the fact that there is no belief in god, regardless of his or her existence, create a better or worse society.

Remember, we're discussing religion in this thread...not god. We cannot ignore the fact that religion has been divisive, provocative and has indeed precipitated wars...and continues to do so. But, it is true that many wars had no basis in religion.

Would atheism be the principle cornerstone of our society, or would man seek out a higher deity?
