Show me something that supports your claim that we are just incompetent.

Easy.

Most modern corporations are managed by men.

Your fucking fool of a boyfriend talks like a man with a paper ass. He seems to think that managerial expertise is something genetic rather than a learned skill. Nothing could be further from the truth. The long winded diatribe he just puked up like a testosterone laced hairball is his opinion and nothing more.

He seems to forget that middle management in business today is rife with male dominated incompetence; perpetrated by individuals who achieved their professional positions by having the ability to swing a golf club and kiss ass.

No matter how much he stamps his feet and throws his dung around in his cage, he cannot escape the fact that men dominate this world because they oppress and kill whatever they perceive as a threat to their ego. This has nothing to do with their innate ability or intelligence. All it takes is aggression and muscle.

I chalked it up to men having greater opportunity in climbing the ladder than women do and I stand by it because it's supported not only by anecdotal evidence but by academic study.

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't you employed by your husband's company?

Was that on merit?

By the way, before you start making assumptions, I do NOT regard any competency as genetic, nor gender based. However, I strongly believe that men and women are NOT identical, and that difference frequently manifests itself in how we behave in the community.

I worked on the family farm when I was young. Even after I moved out I went back and worked on the farm on my days off.

I was not employed by my husband's company because technically I owned it.

It was and still is incorporated in my name as a woman owned minority business. I also ran the office end of it, purchasing, accounting, estimating, etc. Hopefully in a few months I will be disentangled from it. Then it will remain to be seen how long it will stay solvent. :laugh3:

Hopefully once it goes titts up, hubby will use all his male superiorty to find a decent paying job. He has college tuition to help pay and the baby needs new shoes.

Oh bullshit!  You don't regard competency as gender based.  We have discussed it at length that you think women are less competent when in upper management roles because they've had less experience.  I provided you evidence to the contrary which you dismissed because it doesn't suit your OPINION.

As I said right to you, as the old boys network dismantles through retirement, women will start to be afforded more opportunity to hold higher ranking positions within companies.  There will not be some older white guy telling them they lack leadership competencies.

And I repeat...you can produce a plethora of biased, pre-ordained, anecdotal "studies" that support any number of arguments.

What you fail to do is to factor in the prejudices, fail tp read CAREFULLY instead of mouthing the words and nodding in agreement, and focus on the AGENDA of the writer.

See, like minorities, your mantra is thus. "Men have ruled the world. Now we want some of their pie. And we are already capable and able to take it."

Just plain bullshit.

You want it, come get it. There are MANY safeguards in our community that ensure everyone is treated equitably...and lack of safeguard is to push UP minorities and females. On every application for the Australian Government public service, there is a question. "Are you an aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander". Why does the PS want to know your race? Because YOU will get priority where equal to other applicants. Not because you are better.

Women, like the men before them, have to WORK their way to the top, not blame MEN because the doors don't open automatically as soon as the detection device recognises breasts. I KNOW men rule the corporate world, but you have cited MANY examples where women have reached the p[pinnacle. On merit.

They will continue to do so...or fail...on merit.

We have the same thing in our snivel service for Aboriginals.

So to put it out, this is the unbiased study I presented to Crow about sexism:

In the hiring of a lab manager, people hiring were given identical information on an application - one with a male name and one with a female name.  The females were rated much lower in hireability and competence.  They were also offered almost $4,000 less a year as a starting wage than their male counterparts.

"When scientists judged the female applicants more harshly, they did not use sexist reasoning to do so. Instead, they drew upon ostensibly sound reasons to justify why they would not want to hire her: she is not competent enough."

Sound familiar Crow?

"We are not talking about equality of outcomes here; this result shows bias thwarts equality of opportunity."

This ^^^ too should sound familiar because it's EXACTLY what I've been saying.

I have heard the claims about women making 72 cents for every buck men make in Canada. However, I work in an extremely male dominated field and I have never experienced any such discrimination...and I'm also a visible minority.

RW

How do you know Shen?  Do you ask what your counterparts make an hour?  Do you know if you are overlooked for promotions or viewed as less competent than the guys you work with?

Have any of the ladies here ever experienced wage or hiring discrimination?

I haven't, but I have never worked in a professional capacity.
