You don't have to pay it an hourly wage, vacation time or benefits, it doesn't take breaks, it works 24/7 and actually gets the customer's order right too.

Sounds like a way better deal

IMA do the quick math on this and find out what minimum wage should be based off what it was when I got my first job.

OK, so right off the bat, I've found that all the websites are straight up LIES!!!! when it comes to historic prices. People, we are being gas lit to fucking hell. This shit is so fucking bad, I'm not even going to comment of minimum wage anymore.

Please look at the prices listed for the two sites below and discuss.

https://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/1984?amount=3

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/13/how-much-gas-cost-every-year-since-1978.html

For those of you that dont notice immediately, this information is completely wrong....by a LOT!

I couldnt resist.

If you use the price of gold as an anchor, minimum wage should be $16.93. I'd be happy to win an argument as long as its accepted that minimum wage should be tied to something concrete. If you believe there should not be a minimum wage period, well, you should be able to pay people $1 per hour and it is not an argument that I can win.

Governments have to topple or be fully neutered for the concept of legislated minimum wage to go away...

I still laugh when I order delivery food online in Australia and they have an optional "driver tip" box.

1st off, why would I tip when I already paid up front and the delivery driver hasn't arrived yet therefore not warranting any consideration of a tip or not.

But more importantly, Australian governments have mandated certain "award wages" for nearly any occupation bar a nuclear family run farm.

Shit is so expensive here BECAUSE of socialism...

...and then these businesses put in a digital tip jar for their drivers because...what? Aren't they paying them the legally sanctioned and otherwise criminally prosecutable if they aren't paying "minimum wage"?

Yeah, nah...

These are the same food businesses that claim their delivery fee is between 4-12 bucks, within a limited locality, assuming you spend a minimum of 25-100 bucks on a single order... and then at check out, you get hit with a further 4-7 buck servicing fee.

What the fuck? If you order food for pick up, the price is the price.

If you order food for delivery, the delivery fee is added on.

Yet, you must pay their servicing fee... or the order won't proceed.

Tips? Motherfuckers?

Here's a tip... go fuck yourselves, Australian takeaway/takeout restaurants....

Your food is above all pretty mediocre... priced through the roof, and did I mention your food is barely edible.

Pizzas and Tex Mex are abominable... these people know sweet fuck all about cuisine, proper ingredients, and fair prices.

Blahhhhhh...

Yea, that tip bullshit is a joke! Worse yet, I remember when 10% was the standard. Now they want 20%!!!

As far as minimum wage, I view it the opposite. I believe I can prove that the problem is NOT that minimum wage should be $16/hr+, the problem is that the people in this country view that as excessive to pay a burger flipper. Why do they view it that way? Because THEIR real wages have been driven down since the 80's.

My step dad made 70K in the 80's as a service manager. The service manager at my local garage makes $80K to $100K/yr. The equivalent today would be close to $300K/yr. I doubt anyone could possibly wrap their head around wages being that low. I doubt anyone here will accept it.

Further supporting my assertion, we lived in an $80,000 house when he made $70K/yr. The house today is worth well over $200,000 dollars.

Another example:

Radiologists at my local hospital made $250K/yr in 1990. My son in law is an ER doc and can only break $400K/yr with overtime. Instead of me doing the math, I'll leave it up to someone else. the FACT! is though, nobody can convince anyone reasonable that 1990 $250K/yr is only $400K/yr in todays money.

It's ironic that Bernie Sanders puts the Danish economic model on a pedestal. They do not have a legislated minimum wage.

A California Democrat announced a lawsuit against the liberal city of Sacramento on Tuesday, claiming that officials have failed to address the homelessness crisis and allowed conditions comparable to "third-world countries."

Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho torched city officials for neglecting to enforce ordinances regarding homelessness.

During a Tuesday press conference, Ho explained that the homeless population has increased 250% within the past seven years, noting that Sacramento has more people living on the streets than San Francisco.

Ho called it a "descent into decay," claiming officials have allowed the city to "collapse into chaos." The city's refusal to enforce the law has caused "an erosion of everyday life where we forget what it feels like to be safe," Ho claimed.

True, but:

There is no minimum salary set by law in Denmark, but the actual minimum monthly gross salary is around €2,600. Taxes are really high here, at around 52%, which means that the minimum take-home salary becomes ~€1,300.

https://nomadnotmad.com/this-is-the-minimum-and-average-salary-in-denmark/

€1,300.00 = roughly $1,386.28

Minimum wage in USA is still $7.25 per hour.
40 hour work week x 4 = $1,160.00

So workers in Denmark, with no mandated minimum wage, have more money *after taxes* than a minimum-wage worker in 'Murica earns GROSS.

Maybe the Danes just don't have as many greedy pricks running things? /shrug

That aint entirely accurate. The actual tax income rate on low salaries like that is 12.09%. That does not include shit like the Municipal tax which varies depending where you live in Denmark and the Labour Market Tax.

The minimum wage is decided through collective bargaining agreements in each sector. The average for most sectors of unskilled labour is just under $16 an hour. But, the difference between the minimum wage and the average salary is not too much. Journeymen in Canada earn higher wages than in Denmark. I worked with HD mechanics from Denmark in the Middle East. I can see why they go abroad to work. They are underpaid.

So, Denmark pays fast food workers about the same as California or British Columbia. But, they underpay folks that took years to get certification. I do not like it.

I live in a nice leafy suburb but it is changing drastically and it's killing my spirit.

What is happening is people selling their backyards, ripping out the mature shady trees and growing a backyard family.

It hurts like hell to see less trees, more wretched people with twice as many cars clogging up streets.

The changes are fast and insufferable.
