Are there many job openings in your region?

I live where you live, Super, and I beg to differ...

Understand the cost of living here now.  Vancouver has now surpassed Manhattan and San Francisco, becoming the most expensive place to live on this entire continent, when median wages are taken into account.

Basically, we have million dollar condos, and jobs that top out at a shit wage, thus now making us the most expensive city to live in.

There are NO decent wages here!  $20/hour?  Give me a break...  $30/hour?  MIGHT rent you a one bedroom...

I understand what you are saying, many ARE lower paying jobs, but I do see better paying jobs too. Transit jobs, government agency jobs, healthcare jobs, industrial jobs. Heck, even casinos pay better than minimum wage jobs.

Plus, we all start somewhere...

I don't see minimum wage jobs as long term career options, but we all need to start somewhere, gain some experiences, and aim for better jobs.

And, my point was that there are jobs out there for those who are looking.

The problem is, Super, is that even at $30/hour, people cannot afford to live here.

I hear you. People do what they need to do. They work 2 jobs, house share/get roommates.

Not everyone buys million dollar homes. Some live further out, or make due with less expensive/suburban apartments.

Luckily I bought 20 years ago. It's not a castle, but its mine and the Mrs. Luckily we both make a livable wage and can afford suburban living. Not having kids helps too...

I do work with a number of guys who also work second jobs or have side businesses.

We have friends who have retired and relocated to the Okanagan. That might be a option for us too.

I agree Superchecker.
