Oh, slot machines.

Bricktop

Win or losing at gambling is not a "one day" calculation.

It is measured over the period of time you gamble. So, a $3,000 win on a single day for infrequent gamblers is a BIG win.

But if that $3000 eventually finds its way back into the Casino, it means nothing. And in my experience, MOST of the money finds its way back into the Casino.

Are there casinos all over Australia?

Bricktop

Yes.

And poker machines in most pubs and clubs. Gambling addiction is a HUGE problem here, and until recently largely ignored by the Government.

Now there are a number of measures in place to try and break the cycle of addiction that causes so much damage to individuals and families. That still doesn't stop the problem entirely. But Casinos are now forbidden to offer benefits to large, problem gamblers, and even pubs and clubs must, at all times, have a responsible person in charge who must intervene if they believe a gambler is acting irrationally.

I think the machines have been altered to prevent certain forms of wager.

Over even relatively short periods of time, House Wins!!

And yes, addiction is a huge problem for many families. Every member of the family suffers.

I doubt ANY govt measures will "significantly" change things so long as venues exist.

Government will never forego gambling revenue.

Nope. They are, after all, the biggest beneficiaries of gambling addiction.

Along with cigarettes and alcohol.
