About 3.5 kilometres long, only the driver on board. Ran coal from the minefield to the power station...about 80km one way.

Pichi Richi steam locomotive, operating a tourist line in the sub-desert north of the state. Beautiful scenery on a 30km run.

Looks like the contractors rail grinding train. :laugh3:

Bricktop

Which one?

If the guy on the coal train invited me aboard, I'd be there in a flash...he was a great guy to talk to.

The first one looks very different from coal trains in Canada.

I got a ride from a freight train driver in Victoria to NSW at a depot, then back. Their preferred cab service for the drivers didn't have a sedan free so we rode in a limo to the first depot.
Blahhhhhh...

Bricktop

Oooooooo....a LIMO!!!

You must have felt like a rock star...riding in a LIMO.

I was pointing out how peculiar it was to be getting a limo ride in order to take a diesel freight train to nowheresville.

I live near Canadian  Pacific's  Keith Yard..

They use blue vans to  shuttle train crews around.

My friend was working as a contractor so his company booked cabs as assignments came up.

The one that doesn't give rides to paying customers in historical parks.

This is the locomotive Loram rail grinders uses.

Not nearly powerful enough for the main line. That train's locomotive is for short line.

Absolutely no riders allowed at CP or CN. It's a liability thing.

Bricktop

As it should be.

I was thinking wishfully...

I'm researching my family history. I've discovered that my great grandfather, and great great grandfather worked the trains in Peterborough, UK when they became the major conveyance for commercial transport in the UK in the late 19th, early 20th century. I remember as a kid seeing these massive goods van yards with hundreds of vans waiting distribution to all parts of the UK.

These are from that era.

My love of old trains seems to have a source, after all.
