They love it...mostly.

British people believe in the monarchy as symbolic of their national pride, heritage, history and traditions. British people are very much enmeshed in tradition at both the macro and micro level. Sunday is roast day, for example...because that's traditional.

The monarchy represents stability and an assurance that their traditions live on. Its a powerful symbol. So powerful, even Australia adopts the monarchy as its head of State, a situation that needs to be changed.

Many countries envy the British monarchy, because it somehow combines with the Westminster model of democracy to provide a stable government.

Ah, like Green Day.

Bricktop

I don't know about Green Day...I can't get past their awful music.

Peter Garrett was an extreme lefty, but sold out to join the socialist party and was appointed a Minister.

He was one of the worst Ministers in our history, and that is saying something, to absolutely no-one's surprise.

And what was his profession before he shaved his head and sang in a band, I hear you ask?

Lawyer.

Most artists either swing left, or pretend to swing left.  Those that lean right simply won't mention it in their music these days, or in interviews, as they'd be made an 'outcast'...

They make no sense to me

They come to our country

And think they'll do as they please

Like start some mini-Iran

Or spread some fucking disease

And they talk so many God damn ways

It's all Greek to me

Axl Rose, years later, had some explaining to do regarding these lyrics...  Of course when he wrote this song in the 1980's, you could still get away with it.  That quickly changed though in the 1990's...

That will get removed from streaming services...

The cost of the wedding will be $45.8 million and it will add $1.43 billion to the British economy.

I've learned that if someone asks you a really stupid question and you reply by telling them what time it is, they'll leave you alone

Better question is, why would the elders permit this?  No doubt she was not 'approved' during the 'round table emergency meeting,' but I suppose times change and maybe they thought it not fitting to interfere these days?
