OK, the value of the land on every house on my street has gone up about the same, including mine.  Also, the value of every single house itself has gone up too, roughly in a proportionate amount.

Except mine.  How the fuck can my house go down in value by $45,000, when every single house on my street has gone up anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 just for the house alone?

How is this even possible?  Out of the dozens around me, every single assessed value has seen a gain.  Except me.  I am the only property owner here that seems to be dragging the whole town down.  Nothing has changed with this house in the 25 years that it has existed (trust me, I know), so how can a house itself take such a huge hit, when none others here did?

Is it because I moved in?

Not sure how it works in other Provinces, but in BC assessments are public record.  I can easily just click on any property in the Province, and find last years assessed value, as well as the 2020 assessed value.  it'll also list recent sale prices also...

Just like this.  Point and click on any property that you want.

The city announces the rate increase and then they mail out assessments..

We should get ours very soon.

Alberta seems to do things differently in this regard...

Quote from: "Guest"I read Vancouver had a big increase in property tax.

All the Chinese there keep crashing into each other, so they need to recoup the cost of emergency personnel and first responders...  Not to mention all the junkies there that overdose on a daily basis.  They cost money too!

I'm glad I left that shithole.

I saw on the news about affluent mainland Chinese women going to Richmond hospital to give birth and and then going back to China and leaving a large hospital bill behind..

Mainlanders with money have very little confidence in China's long term prospects and seek an insurance policy(a foreign passport) in case things turn bad.

I'm going to phone BC Assessment on Monday to see what the fuck is up, because this is bullshit.  Apparently I'm the only guy in the entire Kootenay's that has taken a massive shitting on house value.  Everyone else went up in this entire region.  I checked.

This has been happening for decades.  North America is one of the few places left that still permit this.

It's an easy way to skip the immigration queue.  Isn't that why you're here, Fash?

Have baby here, easy way for entire family to emigrate, no questions asked.

Yes, it's true..

My mother came here to give birth to me and then we went back to Taiwan after I was born..

I had Canadian citizenship from birth which made it easier for my parents, and my younger brother to immigrate here many years later..

Taiwan was not the liberal democracy back then that it is today and my father was being persecuted..

What makes us different is that we all came here stayed and contributed..

There are a lot people in Lebanon and China with Canadian passports who haven't lived here in decades.
