I remember seeing fortifications to the stumps of a house out the back of Surfers Paradise that were aimed at reducing a termite problem the house owners were having. I'm trying to remember the exact specifics (and drawing a blank) though I do remember the issue was with the ants gaining access to the house via the stumps. To that end, brick retaining walls of about a metre square were constructed in key areas, filled in with rocks and possibly other things which inhibited ant traffic to the stumps themselves.

Point is that even with an interior that is squeaky clean and spick and span, you can still find yourself with problems that require aggressive (and sometimes costly) solutions. Good luck in your quest, but do seek out a professional or three and see if they can't give you a few ideas on what else you can do as well.

Oh, and while I think of it, grab yourself some Diatomaceous Earth and leave a few small piles of it in areas where you know the ants to be trafficking. You might think of it as a kind of eco-friendly DDT, the particles are small enough to work their way into the joints of a good many insects (including ants) and dessicates them with none of the chemical residue that made DDT such a pain in the ass for larger organisms. Still not recommended for use around pets though, but as long as you are careful where you put it, you can make life terribly difficult for your six legged friends and their relatives.

I've never had a problem with insects either. Plenty of methods for dealing with them at my disposal. Same goes for other pests, you just need to know their kryptonite and Bob's yer auntie.

I remember with a lot of fondness a time when I was hanging out at a guitarist friend's place not too far from where Freud is living now. This guy was a total eco-nut, which struck me as kinda strange because he had previously been a punk rocker of some local renown in the late seventies. He also drove a Volvo and couldn't understand why people automatically made fun of his driving skills because of it.

Anyway, one night when it had been raining heavily and the slugs were out, I wandered into the kitchen to make a coffee. Turned on the light, there's at least half a dozen gastropods sliming their way across the food prep areas, one of them was making its way over the lip of the coffee mug I was intending to drink my coffee from. Disgusting fuckers. I immediately reached for the table salt and started sprinkling it liberally on them, smiling as every last one of them started screaming. Just not as loud as Me Ex-Punk-rocker was freaking out when he wandered in to see what was going on. Apparently the slugs were God's Creatures or something, to which I pointed at the lush, wet vegetation outside and inquired "did he kick them out of Eden then?" Jesus, from the rate he was carrying on, I half suspected he wanted to gather them all up and wrap them about his wizened rod so he might spunk all the salt off them or something. The guy was a freak.
